I would say if RT wins 10 games next year, and 15 games the following year thats OK with me. If Worthy would have stayed in the game all year we would not be talking about RT today. He was that good and we know it. Bad luck for sure. I like RT and believe that a long term approach is what is needed. We can not keep firing our coaches every 5 years. We have done that and that does not work for us or anyone in the WCC.

Lions pride:
I would love to be a few games over .500 next year. I think it would be a sign we are headed in the right direction.
What are your expecations?

ironlions - .500 season next year is IMPERATIVE. If that is not achieved, RT is definitely out in my mind. That is my milestone. But this year, I thought we would have atleast 11-13 wins. That is not going to happen. I don't see the potential as we are struggle big time. But if he must stay, .500 is my measuring stick. .500 would show progress in my mind to retain RT. If RT could not hit .500 last year with a Matty, Damo, and Adoyah (yes I am excluding the injury to Worthy), I don't even see two current players on the LMU roster that our of those skilled players, let alone three. I don't see it. It comes do to recruiting and we are lacking. I'm not even confident in the X and 0s or him knowing his talent. How many different starting line up have we had this year. How many wholesale substitutions during game? How many losses.
scoop - please don't give me that layup crap. it was a losing season that year. the layup was MISSED. Get back to reality or call the Buffalo Bills and share in the past MISSING.

IronLion,
Let me ask you this. Who is better as a freshman Brandon Worthy (who you know was a stud) or Orlando Johnson. My money is on Orlando. If you also recall Matt Knight did not exactly kick butt his Freshman year. Same Question, Tim D. or Matt. My money is on Matt, but Tim is not bad and will grow. Cory or Adoyah as Juniors. My money is on Cory. I think this team does have some depth at the guard spot/small Forward and does need some help inside. I say give RT some time. Sutton will come along and we need to find one additional big. Someone will leave and open a spot. Yes RT could have miss fired on one or both of the bigs, but finding awesome WCC 7-0's is not easy and you need to take a chance once in a while. Go back, do you remember Mike Yoest '88. Not a single DI scholarship other then LMU. Not so great Freshman Year and then BAM he rocked his Sophomore year. Now he is in our Hall of Fame. How about Sherman Gay his Freshman Year. He sucked.... Look at his Senior year AWESOME.

again, i have no idea what you are talking about, lionspride. A known devil is always better than an unknown. How has USF's situation been improved since Evan's departure? Sutton's win total still at 798 the last time I check. The same goes for pepperdine, they were a mid-wcc team before today, now they are almost a dead-lock for 8th place finish. Making quick decision has no value. It's making quick CORRECT decision that will earn you success. By saying LMU should take notice, are you advocating for firing of Coach Tention? Sorry but I have to interpret it this way. You seem to suggest we stuck too long with RT lmu: Sutton is an interim head coach for USF. Pepperdine and USF will both get quality coaches for next season. You sure look into my words, lmu. Why, do you feel that we have stuck too long with RT and the potential to turn around our program is not there? Sounds like you are hyper-sensitive to our coaching situation. You must be thinking a change/firing after the season will happen as that is YOUR words and not mine? Boy, somebody needs reading comprehension class. If anything, I was questioning what you were implying by saying "LMU should take notice of this yaddi yadda". Sounded like somebody not happy there is no change at LMU while others are constantly making change. (I say "change" not "progress").

Good discussion and I realize that a 4-14 team is going to draw some ire from fans. The blowout loss to CSUB was also a big deal but we cannot turn every thread into a "Fire RT" debate. I suggest we move all this conversation about the future of the program or RT's fate to another thread.

From SMC board and according to the LA Times Walberg's son aka eye poker has quit the team. A shame that his basketball career was such a roller coaster ride, but as is life. Presumably he will leave Pepperdine as well. LATimes Pepperdine (6-12, 0-2) at St. Mary's (14-2, 1-0), 7 p.m. -- The Waves, still reeling from the sudden resignation of Vance Walberg as coach Thursday, will be without guard Jason Walberg, his son. He quit the team Friday. Walberg was averaging 8.5 points and was second on the team in assists. Reserve center Jarrad Henry is not making the trip, either, but has not officially left the team. St. Mary's is 9-0 at home. The Gaels are limiting opponents to 39.9% shooting.

Lmu, it seems like we are trying to talk sense into someone who has their mind made up. Maybe he has an uncle or something that wants the job. Lionspride, if you could explain to me how a coach is supposed to make a layup for a player? Somehow that became the coaches fault as well. Lionspride, I really am interested to know how many coaches ago the lions were up to your standards? Also, who else in our league is competing to your standards? Because all but two have fired coaches in the last 3 years. So I guess if you can reveal your great plan. I would love to get on board. Tell me who in our League has improved getting rid of coaches. I like the earlier statement. Change not progress.
