Brian Rosario Named Assistant Coach
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Loyola Marymount women's basketball head coach Julie Wilhoit announced today that Brian Rosario will be joining the Lions' coaching staff. The University of San Diego graduate will return to the West Coast Conference after helping Cornell improve from last place to third place in the Ivy League.
"We are thrilled to have Brian join our staff," said Wilhoit. "Besides his college coaching experience, Brian brings great energy and excitement to our program."
The season prior to Rosario's arrival, Cornell was 3-24 overall and just 1-13 in Ivy League play. In his first season, 2005-06, Rosario helped the Big Red improve to 5-9 in conference and guided Jeomi Maduka to the Ivy League Rookie of the Year award. In 2006-07, the Big Red improved to 12-15 overall, 8-6 in Ivy League play to finish in third place.
"I am very excited with the new challenge of coming back into a conference that I know, to a school with LMU's tradition. I am eager to get started working with Julie Wilhoit and Lynn Flanagan, two proven winners," said Rosario.
Prior to his stint at Cornell, Rosario served as an assistant at Cumberland College (Ky.) for four years. At Cumberland, Rosario helped the Patriots reach the NAIA national tournament in three of his four seasons, including 2003-04, when the team compiled a 28-4 record and captured the Mid-South Conference regular season title. In his last season, Cumberland posted a 21-10 mark and won its conference tournament.
A 1999 graduate of the University of San Diego with a bachelor of business administration degree, Rosario completed his master's degree in middle school education at Cumberland in 2005. He is a member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and has served as a NAIA committee representative.
Rosario brings a wealth of experience to his new position. Prior to his tenure at Cumberland, he was an assistant at McNeese State in Lake Charles, La.
During his time at San Diego, he was a volunteer practice player for the women's basketball team, playing on the scout team to prepare the Toreros for competition. Rosario also served as an assistant coach at Mission Bay HS, where he helped the team to the C.I.F. semifinals in 1999 and 2000.
