Ht: 6-0 Wt: 155 Position: PG Year: Class of 2008 High School: Benson Polytechnic HS (Portland, OR)
Quick, young point guard with good size and very good vision. Nice feel for the game, pretty good shot. With continued development, a potential high major prospect.
Ameer will be on LMU campus 09/13/07. I hope the sun is shining, the fountain on LMU drive is shooting high and the hot LMU girls are out in full force. I really hope we can recieve his commitment sounds like a great player.

He's taken a bit longer than his classmates to come to a decision, but it shouldn't be too much longer for Ameer Shamsud-din. The all-around 6-foot-2, 175-pound point guard from Benson Tech High School in Portland has essentially whittled his list down to a top trio of schools, and over the next month he will be hosting coaches at his home as well as making two official visits to college campuses - with a final choice coming not long after that.
It looks like either the Pac-10, WAC, or WCC for Ameer Shamsud-din "I've got my first first home visit next Monday and my second one next Tuesday," Shamsud-din said. "Oregon State is coming on Monday and then Loyola Marymount is on Tuesday. I'll see what they have to offer and take things from there."
One thing will be up next will be some official visits - one each during the next couple of weekends. "I'm visiting Loyola Marymount next Thursday," Shamsud-din said. "Then Nevada is coming in to visit me on the 20th, and then I'll probably head out there on the 23rd and 24th. Boise State and Santa Clara want me to visit, but I don't think I'll visit them."
Essentially, Shamsud-din has trimmed his choices down to Oregon State, LMU, and Nevada and is keeping them all even. "They're all top programs in good conferences and the coaching staffs are really cool," Shamsud-din said. "Oregon State has been on me for a year and a half, and I like how they've been consistently on me. I like the team and I like the atmosphere there. But it's the same thing for all of the schools."
"I've been to Loyola Marymount before at the Best of Summer tournament but I only got to see the gym, so I want to see the rest of the campus," he continued. "And Nevada, I've heard it's a nice campus so I'll be waiting to see that."
Once Shamsud-din returns from his last trip, look for the process to end not too long afterwards. "After Nevada, I'll make my choice," he said.
Competing against the Pac 10 and the best team in the WAC for a player is a really good sign. And it looks like we have a leg up on santa clara on this one.
Looks like Tention might just have the starting piece to a competitive recruiting class. any word on any other visits? Anyone know how many we are looking to sign?

Hope you guys get this guy. Love to see us ALL recruit well, and get high rated kids. It only makes the WCC Conference RPI better in the long run.
A friend of mine has seen this kid play, and apparently, he is the real deal ! Good luck

Ameer would be a good get. Hope the coaches can put on a nice presentation to seal this deal. Wouldn't hurt to get the women's vball team in the gym for some practice while he's touring the facilities.

Neveda seems to be the team to beat for us. Why any one would want to go to school in Reno over Los Angeles would beat me.
From Rivals:
Seven rising seniors from in-state have made their decision, and a eighth is awfully close. Ameer Shamsud-din, the all-around 6-foot-2, 175-pound point guard from Benson Tech High School in Portland will likely be next. Shamsud-din is in the middle of taking his official visits, the first of which was this past weekend at Loyola Marymount."It went good, it went good," Shamsud-din said. "I got to play with the players and I got a good view of campus. It's a good environment down there. All-around, it was good. There are a lot of good people there."Lions guards Brandon Walker and Shawn Deadwiler served as Shamsud-din's hosts on campus and he had a fun time hanging out with the guys. While he enjoyed his trip, he didn't make any decisions one way or another about LMU. He's got more trips on the schedule, which has shifted a bit recently as one trip has been delayed one week from when it was originally scheduled and another school appears to have gotten on the docket for this weekend.
"I'm probably going to Oregon State this weekend," Shamsud-din said. "I haven't seen the whole campus (at OSU) so I want to do that, see the dorms, and meet the people behind the scenes like the athletic director."
From there, Shamsud-din will hit Reno for what will likely be his third and final visit. The Wolfpack staff is coming in during the next week for their in-home visit and it appears that they may have risen to where they're the team to beat.
"Nevada-Reno is my number one school," Shamsud-din said. "The coaching staff there is really cool and I like the success they've had the last couple of years. But right now I'm just weighing all of my options, and after Nevada I'll probably make a commitment."

I think we lost him. Blame it on GP. That facility just isn't going to do anything for recruiting.

Nevada has a good program. I can see the appeal (but not of Reno though, no thanks). I hope LMU can pull it off in the end.

If he is deciding solely on how GP looks then I wouldn't want him anyway. Let's be positive till we get the final word.

A lot of it could be
"do you want to be part of a building program" or "do you want to be part of a program that is already built." Sort of a mountain to climb for us. Nevada has gone dancing and racked up a number of 20+ winning seasons the last couple of years. We on the other hand or OSU have not been so lucky. The Wolf Pack may seem like a safe bet. I think it is good we are still in the running. LMU is way better than UNR ;D

Let's hope LMU's location, his bonding with our players, and coaching staff is more alluring then Reno's recent basketball success.

With Nick Fazekas out at Nevada they can't phone it in this season. I went to their board and saw the fans licking at their chops for Ameer. Would love to see him verbal for LMU.
