I expect the Dons to be 2 – 6 in WCC play (i.e., lose to the Waves) coming into our game next Saturday, Jan 24, matching our record (being an optimist here).
They played a pretty weak pre-WCC schedule and it shows in their league play, where they have underwhelmed. They did lose by 1 to USD (57-56) at USD, a result that probably only confused odds makers.
Versus the Lions, I see Mornar matching up well with second-leading scorer Tollefsen (6’9”, 199 JR) and Godwin/Siame/ Herman handling their leading scorer Pinkins (6’7” 230 SR). However, both Pinkins and Tollefsen shoot over 40% from 3-pt range so their game is not only inside.
Deji and our aggressive zone can (perhaps) handle their top guards Derksen (6’3” 202 JR), Glover (6’5” 212 SR) and Watson (6’1” 165 FR). We can’t give them open shots as they all shoot over 42% from the field and Derksen (45%) and Glover (42%) shoot well from 3-point range. I think the guard match up will decide the games outcome.
This would be a nice win on the road for Dunlap and an encouraging result in his first season with this revised roster.
I’m hoping Evan Payne isn’t injured badly and can contribute in his unique was during our road trip to Northern California this week.
Go Lions!
