Smc just beat zags in Spokane and complete the season sweep. Zags need to win the wcc tourney in Vegas or they are on the bubble. Wcc tournament is going to be insane this year.

Exactly what the announcers said except they think Zags have to win the WCC tourney to get back to the NCAA

www.wccsports.com/news/wcc-announces-2015-16-men-s-basketball-all-conference-team-02-29-2016Jacko got 2nd team, which is the only recognition by any LMU player. IF he didn't sit out the last 4 games of the season, he might have gotten first team and new comer of the year over Rahon from St. Marys, but I think Rahon is pretty deserving of both awards as he was a leader for the team that finished first in conference. Tutu did not make all freshman team, and I don't think he deserved it over the guys who are on it. Hopefully we will get more recognition next year.

In addition to Jacko, Brandon Brown was named All WCC Honorable Mention as well. Congrats to both players for coming in and making an impact.

Jacko also fouled our early in several of our early games due to stupid fouls - 4 pts, etc. I expect he has learned his lesson for next season.
Lets get on with Vegas.

As expected Ron Verlin officially fired from Pacific. Expect former LMU assistant Calvin Byrd to be gone as well.

I think last night solidifies the WCC getting two teams in the tourney, if Gonzaga lost I honestly think they would be out, but with them winning and both teams playing well, I think Saint Marys sneaks in, maybe in the play in game, but I think you have to put them as one of those top 36ish teams who get the at large bid.

No doubt I think St. Mary's deserves to get in, especially since they beat Gonzaga twice and won the regular season title of the WCC. Additionally, I think playing a close game at California a top 25 type team should prove that they can play on the road and against a quality opponent. That being said, this is Randy Bennett's problem of scheduling easy schedules.
According to this on cbssports..
"The Gaels, who swept the regular season series from Gonzaga, is out and likely to stay that way. St. Mary's has played a whopping 18 games against teams ranked below 200 in the RPI. Thirteen of those were WCC contests, but that is a very high percentage of their schedule. The Gaels played 13 games against teams in the top 200, finishing 8-5. No team since 1994 has received an at-large bid with more than 14 games against teams ranked outside the top 200 or with at least half of its schedule against that group. I doubt St. Mary's will be the first."
What a crappy way to end the season if that's the case.

The WCC blood bath continues - Rex Walters out at USF.

Can't say the bloodbath isn't deserved. Most of the WCC has been underperforming for quite awhile now. Gonzaga, St Mary's and BYU have opened the door to national attention being focused on the conference. It's about time the remaining 7 schools figure it out. Between last year and this year, the only surviving "non-performing" coach is Reveno at Portland. I'd say the jury is still out on Marty Wilson in Malibu. He's had a nice start but I'm seeing haze in the Waves' future. He needs some quality recruits to continue the Waves' up trend.
I think St. Mary's is good enough to qualify for the tournament but I can't blame the committee if they omit the Gaels because their out-of-conference schedule is abysmal.

Wilson has done a fine job recruiting (LA especially) and building Wave program. Not sure if he is the guy to take them to the next level. I think the Wave could have had a much better year...the really lacked a sense of urgency when I saw them play.
SMC should get into the tournament.

What always makes firing coaches interesting is the ability for players to re-open their recruitment, I know we were going after USF commit Jimbo Lull, if he reopened his recruitment I would be curious to see how hard we go after him.

I wonder if they go after Devin Watson- his high school coach is on the LMU staff.
