Pepperdine has picked up some nice transfers Chris Reyes from Utah, and Eric Cooper Jr from Nevada.

Gonzaga picked up Cal transfer Jordan Matthews. Gonzaga is looking like a legitimate title contender in 2017-18 season if they don't lose anyone early to the draft.

good catch. the article mentions they are independent but i guess they only thought about football. of course. but it seems byu is actively interested meaning that they could be as good as gone. If byu leaves the WCC that will be disappointing because i thought they added something intriguing to the wcc especially on the bball side. i just hope this doesnt cause gonzaga to escape the conference as well because then we'll be a 1 bid conference as well.

I am not an ESPN insider so the link wouldn't work beyond the first paragraph. What was the gist of the story and where did Dunlap rank? Thx

LMU is ranked the least stable
Mike Dunlap, Loyola Marymount Lions Third season, 22-40 record Dunlap was known as a coaching genius when he won a couple of Division II titles at Metro State. He then spent time as an NBA assistant, a St. John's assistant (and interim head coach) before being hired by Michael Jordan to take over the Charlotte Bobcats for a year. Dunlap was hired by LMU two years ago and the 59-year-old has struggled, going 8-23 his first season and 14-17 this past season.

i would be interested to see how the entire conference was ranked. i feel like dunlap is the least stable by default:
the big 3 of the wcc - all could have left a long time ago for a bigger program - not going anywhere. 4 new head coaches - not going anywhere 1 2nd year coach - too early to tell - not going anywhere
leaves LMU and Pepperdine - Wilson has been in charge 6 years and has shown improvement in the program.
I also could only read the first few paragraphs, but the last one does point out the following "These rankings go in descending order, from least to most stable. Keep in mind that stability is not solely determined by whether a program will want to part ways with its head coach if there are perceived failings; often, success will make it difficult, if not impossible, for a program to keep a coach from leaving for a seemingly better job."
I believe the next year is critical for Dunlap and the program. Would Husak sack Dunlap if the team regresses, do we improve by another 6 games and now Dunlap is a hot commodity. Only time will tell.

Wow! Most of the WCC coaches are on long-term contracts and several are brand new so no wonder Dunlap is listed as the most "unstable". I'm hoping for a surprisingly good season and keeping Dunlap for some time to see how his system really works I admit I'm impressed so far (except for his chasing one of Max's star players off the team).

The Lions should be in pretty decent shape this year. It's too bad Jacko couldn't stick around. CMD would have had a very representative team and a candidate for WCC POY.
CMD has been handed a bit of a gift this year with all of the turmoil across the rest of the league. The Lions should easily contend for 4th place in an extremely weak league. I don't see any stars on this year's team, but there also aren't any glaring holes. A strong wing/SF who could drive the lane, shoot and be an all-around scorer would help but that's asking for a lot. Jacko would've added flair and notoriety to the program. Without him, the team should be fairly effective but also a bit drab. Of course, wins will go a long way to erasing that drabness.
At this point, I have to say CMD is on track. The key to the future is how this year's and next year's recruits perform. Those are the guys who will secure CMDs legitimacy.

BYU - Big 12 discussions are heating up. A football-only solution is a possible solution but not the "preferred" solution. Losing BYU wouldn't be surprising, but it would be disappointing.
