Nice story and great videos from both posters. This kid looks for real and has some "attitude" which I like. Long and lithe but he seems strong in the videos. Some additional strength training will add even more to his play. Exciting.

Good article by Lionsroar. Good catch on two kids from Lansing. Haney Jr. and Trevor Manuel grew up together and are close and Haney Sr. and Manuel's Dad were high school teammates on a powerhouse Lansing Everett squad that almost won the state tile right a few years after Magic. Manuel was at one point a legit Top 50 and in the state tournament Quarterfinals absolutely destroyed MSU Freshman Deyonta Davis who is going to be a lottery pick as soon as this draft. Kid is the real deal. Magic knows both kids well, so don't be surprised is a Gersten regular next season. All good for the program.

We lost Thursday night's game but make no mistake LMU won on Thursday night.

Great get for Dunlap, based on this year so far, we still need more talent! Keep it coming and eventually things will turn around

It was awesome seeing how excited Manuel was getting on the bench when the lions did something good on the court. Does anyone know if our coaches are still actively recruiting guys in the class of 2016?

I reffed the Westchester vs Fairfax game on Friday and it was good to see Dunlap sitting front row watching Gibson play...

Does anyone know if our coaches are still actively recruiting guys in the class of 2016? Manuel looked excited, which is a good sign. I wonder how the frontline will look like next season. Jacko and Manuel would be a nice front court with Johnson and Sykes backing them up. Id start Brown Tauch. either Haney or Spiers at the SF. Tutu will be a better back up and give McClendon a little longer to season offensively. Gibson can come in as a sixth man scorer. Under a a more organized system they should be able to compete for the top half of the conference. Given Dunlap' own time table and his contract I'm assuming it's a five year plan. I'd have to say that 5th place is a reasonable expectation for next year. If there is one thing this roster is missing is a regular sized center

I've only seen highlights of Gipson, and this year it seems like he is going most of his scoring from the three point line, I've also heard he's pretty tenacious on defense and a solid rebounder. Hopefully he can kind of be humpheries replacement. And Tutu definitely needs to learn how to slow down, and then work on his shot selection, but I really like his potential and think we have a solid guard for the future. Manuel looks like he has height and length of a center, but he is rail thin.
I think 5th place is still realistic for this year, and next year I'd expect to get 4th. Maybe with some luck, by Manuels senior year we could compete for a top three spot, but that gap from 4th to 3rd in this league is huge, Pepperdine has a chance this year though. The last time a team not named gonzaga, st Mary's, or BYU finished in the top 2 was Santa Clara in 06-07 season. ESPN didn't go back far enough to show when the last regular season championship wasn't gonzaga or saint Mary's.

As to "is Dunlap still recruiting" my guess is yes and if he can land the right player, not everyone on the current team will be around next year. All speculation - I have no inside info.

From what I've read and seen in the Internet, I think Manuel is more of a stretch 4. He has an both an outside and inside game. Finding a true center is still on the shopping list.
Like 2015, I think the Lions are very much in the race for 5th place this year. They currently are 7th with Pacific and USF a game in front of the Lions. Pacific will be 10th irrespective of record because of self imposed discipline. Lions beat USF on the road. Wins at home against USF and SCU together with a win against Pacific and/or USD should place them fifth in the regular season which would be a clear sign of improvement after finishing 10 each of the last two years even with the conference down somewhat this year.

Thanks for the article. This publicity that Jacko is getting us is very positive for the program, and hopefully helps us with athletic big guys in the future.
Things I liked about the article: That the focus for recruiting is on local talent, his quotation on it taking time to do things the right way, his emphasis on enjoying the game and playing their style. There has never been a consistently good college basketball program that doesn't have an identity, although it doesn't look the best right now, the more Dunlap recruits his own guys, the better those recruits are, and the longer they play in the system, the better the system will work. How good his "system" can be is obviously debatable, but I like that he is establishing a positive identity.
Thing(s) I didn't like: I really don't like that he is saying this is really his first year. Even though he basically had to fill a roster at the end of the recruiting period and ended up giving a bunch of guys their only D1 offers, he is acting like it doesn't count and seems to be taking no responsibility for the results. Good for bad, the head coach of a team should always take a certain amount of credit/blame for how the team performs.

Good read expect of for this error: "Significantly, last week LMU recorded its first Bay Area sweep at San Francisco and at Santa Clara since 1992. Dunlap’s guys dispatched the Dons at Memorial Gym 87-83 and the Broncos 76-66 at the Leavey Center. “It hadn’t been done by this program in 23 years,’’ Dunlap said. “It’s the first feather in the cap of this team. It gave us confidence. They’re a little bit wiser now knowing what it takes to win in the league on the road. They did something that has some substance to it but we’re not going to hyperbolize it. We have work to do. We know where we started". The only thing is under CMG the 2011-2012 team went 7-1 on the road only using losing to Gonazaga. espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/team/schedule/_/id/2351/year/2012/loyola-marymount-lions Read more: lmulions.proboards.com/thread/2593/lmu-lions-roar#ixzz3yNfX8e1O

It's what one calls "misleading journalism." This year IS the first time since 1992 that the Lions went to the Bay Area and swept Santa Clara and USF in the same weekend. What the article didn't point out is that the team hasn't always gone to the Bay Area to play Santa Clara and USF in the same weekend. It's a bit like saying Duke has never beaten LMU on the Lions' home court.

Every year (other than 2011-12) since 1992 the Lions played consecutive games in the Bay Area and never swept the opponents. So 22 other times LMU went to the Bay Area and did not sweep.
In 2011-12 it was BYU's first year in the conference so LMU was at USF on December 31, at Santa Clara on January 24, and at St. Mary's on February 15. This does not diminish at all what the 2012 team accomplished.
However, let's not take away from this year's team the fact that 22 out of 23 years we went to and play back to back games in the Bay Area and did not sweep, either.
Go Lions!
