I think it was a good (extended) weekend for the Lions in any case.

It's what one calls "misleading journalism." This year IS the first time since 1992 that the Lions went to the Bay Area and swept Santa Clara and USF in the same weekend. What the article didn't point out is that the team hasn't always gone to the Bay Area to play Santa Clara and USF in the same weekend. It's a bit like saying Duke has never beaten LMU on the Lions' home court. In the theme of misleading, how about Dunlap? In regards to local recruits we'd have Cartwright and Stewart currently here along with CJ Stover Viney Young etc in the past. Dunlap again making a boogeyman where it wasn't . He's making sh*t up. That and pretend year 1 didn't happen... So does that mean his recruits last year were junk filler? How does that feel Herman Humphries and Hayes?? Also it's funny that he's talking about local kids when that article last year on grant land talked about him flying to Australia . Did he realize that we've already had Australian players AND that randy Bennett was probably ROTG when he heard that CMD was going to build a pipeline? Dunlap would make one hell of a politician

SLB,
Let's not forget the goal is to recruit players that help you win, irrespective of where they come from. CJ & Stover took LMU nowhere. Stewart has played well at times at USC but hasn't set the PAC 12 on fire. I'll admit I haven't followed Cartwright. But, both the latter two recruits left with the coaching change.
Jacko is local and a player. McClendon is local, let's see how he develops. Gipson is a local star. Again, let's see what happens.
We're halfway through the WCC regular season, this team has won 10 games, 3, of the last 4, in conference. They have a reasonable chance to finish in the middle of the conference. That hasn't happened in years. You have a right to your opinion but don't let your bias allow you to lose sight of the goal.

I also don't understand how us sweeping Bay Area teams for the first time in 23 tries is "misleading journalism".
Dunlap, his staff, and the players have every right to be proud of that accomplishment.

Cartwright is a starting point guard on one of the best teams in the country. He is very explosive when driving to the hoop and very exciting to watch, with improvement on his outside shot he could be an all Big East performer his senior year. It will be interesting to see how much he steps up once Kris Dunn leaves providence. In the more recent games he has been getting about 10 points and 3-4 assists per game, and is contributing similar to how Stewart is. Our team would be better if they were on our roster but them leaving has nothing to do with Dunlap. He can't establish a relationship with them in a couple weeks like other coaches who were recruiting them for over a year did. Plus, we lost them to top 25 schools in the country that play in major conferences, its not like they left for a WCC/Big West school.
Dunlap is recruiting LA pretty hard for the class of 2017, both Evan Battey and Myles Franklin are great players, and they are also very good friends. Franklin has a very high IQ, knows how to run a team, and is a pass first PG, Batteys current playing weight, from what I've read/seen in interviews, is DOWN to 285lbs... And he still looks quick and like a solid athlete. They both are getting a lot of interest from high major schools but hopefully we can get them.

Somewhere in this thread I posted some highlights of him. If we get him I would assume that there would be some cuts as that would be a crowded front court with Jacko, Johnson, Manuel, Herman, Craig, and Sykes.
24/7 Sports has him as the 12th best JUCO player in the country... Him and Jacko on the court together would be a lot of athleticism.
Edit: Just looked at some box scores of his, he played a few minutes per game and gets about 3 points and 2 rebounds per game, so something doesn't seem right. All the major schools were recruiting him out of high school and now they aren't interested, plus he didn't qualify academically at USC which isn't good because that school will do anything for their athletes. That being said, we are better academically, have a better location, and actually have a better basketball team than the other schools we are competing against. No reason for us not to get him.

lmu thanks for the link - Fairfax wins by 32 after a close first half. Hope Gipson can adapt to less favorable scenarios.

Jabari Craig committed to CSUN.

If he's ending up at CSUN, it's probably not a big loss for LMU. Right now, that's about the level where we are, but we aren't going to get better if we continue to "attract" CSUN type players.
How are Sykes and Gipson doing?

Sykes fouls per minute are higher than Jackos, so that is a bad sign. He is also a 51% FT shooter and is 0-1 from threes on the season (not a shooter). His production has increased in the second half of the season but as I said, constantly plagued by foul trouble.
Gipson seems to be doing most of his scoring from 3s, so hopefully he can be a reliable shooter from deep for us next year. His games haven't been close so he also isn't playing much. From the little bit (2 games) I have seen him play it looks like he may still be mentally recovering from his injury, he doesn't seem to be attacking the rim very much.

Jabari Craig sounds like he was a better Terron Sutton.

It's really hard to gauge ability when they're playing hi school ball since there isn't a lot of quality competition. Sykes propensity for fouls is not good. It's a big leap to DI ball for the inside guys. If he needs to foul in hi school, what will he do next year?
For the outside shooters I'd be looking at their shooting fundamentals (how high is their shooting position, how is their ball rotation, how smooth is their form, how quick is their release), their speed and quickness, and their nose for the game.
Last week Gipson's Fairfax team blew out a weak Windward team. I believe we got a shooter from Windward a few years ago and his shooting fundamentals were awful.
