It will be interesting to see how we play after a great win at Boise State and finals week. Can we keep things rolling or will we take a huge step back like we did vs. Long Beach. URI is tough defense first team lead by the Cunningham boys Larry and Sean ( no relation) The have gotten blown out by some good teams but also played Texas Tech and SDSU close. A good test for us! A victory would build nice momentum heading in a extremely difficult part of the schedule. SEC Miss St; Wager (6-3); BYU (ranked top 25); and Sam Houston State which I believe is (8-0)
Go Lions!

I'm going to this game. I hope we can build off the win but I would like to start seeing who our go to guys are going to be and get them involved early. I think its time. We have two weeks left before conference and I would like to see a good solid 8 to 9 man rotation.
I also beleive it would help the players to understand roles, not saying they don't its just each night its a differnt guy and I want to see consistentcy........

Would love to see the lions pick up their first win streak of the season. Here is sport network's preview of the game. Go Lions!
Loyola Marymount (3-7) at UC Riverside (2-6) By Sports Network
GAME NOTES: The Lions of Loyola Marymount hit the road against non-conference opponent UC Riverside Saturday night at the UCR Recreation Center. Loyola Marymount is trying to build off a 17-point comeback victory over Boise State last weekend. The Lions, who have had problems turning the ball over all year, committed just five second half turnovers and nailed 58.6 percent from the field in the second half. With the game tied at 72, Corey Counts banked in a crucial three-pointer with 17.1 seconds left. After a Boise State bucket, Shawn Deadwiler hit just one of two free throws on the other end, but blocked a game- tying shot to secure a 76-74 win. UC Riverside is more than happy to be at home after six of their first eight games on the road. Away from their home court, the Highlanders are 0-6 and have yet to top the 58-point mark. In their last contest, they fell to San Diego State, 59-46. The Highlanders have been able to come away with victories in their two home contests, including a 56-55 victory over Idaho on a game-winning layup by Severin Gates. The last time these two teams met, the Highlanders came away with a 79-72 victory in 2004, tying the all-time series at two apiece.
Success is not complicated for Loyola Marymount this season. If they've been able to take care of the ball, they've come away victorious. The problem is the Lions are averaging 19.4 turnovers a game while only forcing 15.6 mistakes from their opponents. Opponents are also hitting 46.6 percent from the field while outscoring the Lions by more than 12 points a game. On the offensive side, Orlando Johnson is tallying a team-high 11.5 ppg. He's the only double-digit scorer on the squad, and chips in with 5.2 rpg. Jon Ziri has been a threat without the ball in his hands. He's averaging a team-best 5.9 rebounds, 3.0 assists and more than two steals per outing. If he could improve on his 28.0 percent from the three-point line, he will be that much more of a threat for the Lions. Next week, Mississippi State comes to the Gersten Pavilion, as the LMU hopes to gain their first home victory of the season.
Larry Cunningham has done all he can so far this season to quell the Highlanders' offensive woes. The senior is dropping 16.4 ppg, including a 21- point effort in the loss at San Diego State. He's hitting 41.1 percent from the floor and 80.0 percent of his trips at the charity stripe. A sophomore guard of no relation to Larry is second on the team in scoring. Sean Cunningham is adding 8.5 ppg on 54.3 percent shooting from the field. The squad as a whole, however, is hitting just 30.3 percent from the three-point line and has averaged a meager 54.8 points a game this season. Turnovers have played a role in the slow start, as the squad is averaging four more turnovers a game than their opponents. The home games continue for Riverside next weekend, with Cal State Bakersfield making a trip to the Rec Center.
Loyola Marymount's momentum from a big second half against Boise State should be enough to give them an edge over an inconsistent UC Riverside squad.

*whew* rowdy half. Wish the lead was more comfy for us but it's still a lead! Keep it up lions. OJ was really hot. A few messy TOs we can clean up but so far so good. Too bad Tim can't get anything to drop inside. UCR is going to gun for OJ in the 2nd half we may need to see other players step up.

We need to get those rebounds. Lions are getting a shooting touch. We got to keep this pressure up!

Ugh. We are getting sloppy now and turning it over. Letting UCR stay in this game.

Counts almost sunk it but we are in OT! Luckily UCR's hot shooter is fouled out but we've also got a lot of fouls. We can still pull this out. Sheesh. 13 point lead with 16 minutes to go though. Let's go lions!

Even with hot shooting if LMU cannot get its turnovers down we cannot win games. In OT we pretty much just gave up. Very disappointing loss considering how we had it pretty much in the bag.

Sorry even though we had 21 To's to there 14 To's we lost that game with wholesale substitions with 13 minutes to go and a 9 point lead.
That was the game changer. We lost the lead in that 3 min span from 9 to 1. No one gets a rest unless they are gasping for air or hurt right now a min here and a minute there. I'm going for the kill while my guys are HOT. Thats the way I see it.

I doubt that any coach is trying to lose a lead when making whole-sale substitutions. Going 7 minutes into the half without getting your starters some rest and others into the game would have lead to tired players at the end. Coaches usually try to match substitution patterns with the opposing coaches. In Tention's tenure, I always feel that he has his best team on the court at the end of the game and that they can go the last 5-8 minutes hard. That is where you win and lose games, not at the 13 minute mark. And that is what happened last night.

Don't bring up the coach or coaches, I made an assessment of my take on the game and again the bottom line is that was the game changer. We were up 4 at the half extended to 9 and lost it to 1 all within 3 mins. The team is young and when you get a chance to kill you kill. That 3 minute period killed us sorry it is what it is.
I know this team is good very good, chemistry is getting there but when its time to kill you kill, or close out a game.
Gates beat the crap out of us in the 1ST half and OT.
The only thing thats going to make everyone happy is wins and I know they are coming we just have to get in a set rotation and Kill (close out).
