I agree, the way I see it I’d be surprised if Nekic returns, and if Mayoum does return then by my count we would have three scholarships remaining, correct? If so, I’m sure Coach Stan will at least bring in one grad transfer, if not two, and yes I would agree that having Douglas and Alipiev as our tallest players isn’t ideal.
So keep an eye out for an experienced big...Especially the way Markusson improved as the season went on this year, I think Coach Stan can recruit a big and show that he can put him in position to possibly play at the next level.

Mayoum should definitely be playing next year- he is a high major kid.

Coach Stan has emphasized how much he values experience. Assuming the seniors leave and the freshmen recruits come, he’s looking at a pretty young roster next year. I suspect he’ll be pounding the pavement for an experienced big.

If seniors leave (hope they don't!), Stan will be looking for a MOBILE ACTIVE big as our style will change to more ball pressure D (Relentless!!) to force turnovers and get out in transition. Recruit Deiman Reyes fits the bill if we can get him. Of course, I am sure we will keep our eyes on possible transfers to fill this role. We might also seek an experienced ball handling point guard to complement Jalin and Joe who are better in the off guard slot. Not saying that J & J can't play point - just seems like an area where we could be deeper and have someone with a different skill set when matchups call for it.

The recent trend to grad transfers really changes the recruiting scene. Used to be that a coach had to have a good high school recruiting pipeline. Now, the influx of foreign players and the long annual list of grad transfers changes the picture completely ... and makes it nearly impossible for us spectators to speculate where new players will come from. Coach’s asst coaches, with their head coaching backgrounds, should be of benefit. Like everyone else, I’m anxious to see what happens!

I have been watching. He commented in one of the interviews that LMU had consistently communicated with him etc. He'd be a great get. Tough and skilled.

UCSB Coach Joe Pasternack rebuilt his roster with 7 transfers and won the Big West Conference this season. Their loss to LMU was one of only 4 losses this season for the team. They weren't all grads, mostly players from high major programs looking for playing time.

dedicated -
Seniors (4): Quentin Jackson, Jr. Parker Dortch Eli Scott Mattias Markusson
Incoming recruits (4): David Ellilot IV Lamaj Lewis James Nobles Gary Harris, Jr.
Unless another scholarship player leaves, our roster is full for next season.
Apparently we did have an offer out to Glenn Taylor, Jr. also, among others.

I’m probably wrong, but the way I have it figured we only had 12 scholarship players this year, so that’s why Harris was able to join us midseason as the 13th scholarship player.
And we had five seniors on this year‘s team (Scott, Markusson, Dortch, Jackson, Pugh).
2021-22 Seniors: Alipiev, Quintana Juniors: Douglas, Leaupepe, Nekic Sophomores: Anderson, Harris Freshman: Elliott, Lewis, Mayoum, Nobles
That is 11 players, which would leave us with two more scholarships to offer.

I believe this is right. I think that while Pugh was a grad transfer this season, he actually has another year of eligibility. Frankly, I think it would be best for him to move on. His play was very disappointing. If Pugh moves on, we should have 2 openings. Someone suggested Nekic might opt out. He’s not getting much attention from Coach Stan so I can see him looking elsewhere. I have a hard time seeing anyone else leaving. That would give us 3 open slots. We really need some big men and a point guard. Not sure what rabbits Coach Stan can pull out of his hat.

Thank you guys for reminding me we carried only 12 scholarship players last season! I had missed that fact. Glad we have at least one more scholly for that elite “big” we have been waiting for.
