Dameane is practicing regularly with the team. He seems to have healed but the staff is being super cautious given his prior injury history. The plan is to bring him along slowly so that he can be a 100% contributor at the start of league play.

Did play much better defense 2d half, but again no offense!! 3-21 shooting reflects that clearly. 21 3's show desperation as most were forced up at the last second. Dameane was a great Freshman and my heart goes out to his aspirations being thwarted by injury. But this is the 3d year without him, and without a good offensive set he will be ground into injury again as he tries to shoulder this "stand-around" offense. I always thought Dunlap was our best coach since Westhead. You could see it in his recruiting improvement (Elli, Dameane, Bateman, Mathias, Leaupepe etc. etc.) and his defense was always solid, solid, solid! And He coached to the level of his talent, making them better. He was making LMU get better each year, as a program. Too bad some people here got stuck on personality rather than results. Well for those folks, enjoy your Likability. I miss the results.

Dunlap did have very effective defense schemes and was unlucky with all the missing personnel in his final season. Ultimately I think his "cold fish" personality did him in along with our new AD's hope to make his mark on LMU athletics. One might even speculate that Coach Good was equally unlucky and was canned after assembling the best batch of recruits the LMU had seen in a while. That's life I guess. This is Coach Johnson's team for better or worse. I'm sure our AD is watching results closely and seems unafraid to make hard decisions. I'm pulling for Coach Johnson but he has to show results.

Dunlap did not have good defensive schemes. Games tended to be low scoring because he forced such low tempo games, but his defensive spacing was not good and his teams were terribly vulnerable to the weak side wing 3. We got killed on that alone.

Irvine plays Pepperdine today which should give more info on how good the Anteaters are. The Waves are 3-1 and are slight favorites.

Anteaters lost in Malibu Game wasn’t that close at the end Let’s hope our Irvine game was a fluke Maybe our Wake Forest game will tell more - for better or worse

That will be a long 2-hour (will feel like 5-hour) drive back on the bus to Irvine for the UCI players, knowing Coach Turner’s temper.

I didn’t see the game but UCI had a poor shooting percentage. Off night? Or strong defense? Knowing Romar’s teams, it’s hard to believe it was strong defense.

Historically bad shooting night for UCI - good win for the WCC but I wouldn't take too much from it.
