Yes great win without Alex and no Douglas. McBride will be a beast for us next year. I think we can make some noise this year. Can can put these games together and not everyone has a cam even Gonzaga doesn’t have an answer for him when he is on. Stan has us on the right path!

The game announcer said Alex wAs injured. He didn’t say what the injury was. Hopefully it’s a short term thing.
The defense was outstanding. Shelton was outstanding. Great rebounding. But there was too much standing around on offense. I still think Coach needs to incorporate some screens to generate easy looks for Ahrens and Sniper. Not taking anything away from Coach or the team for a well deserved, strong win; but we’re going to need that outside shooting in the upcoming games.

What an incredible win. I’ll cherish this one forever as a Lions fan. I’ll say it first: we have a bubble team on our hands this year. For someone like myself that has been a fan for over 20 years, this is hard to believe, but we now have wins over Gonzaga at home, Wake, Nevada, GCU at home, and BYU. These are high quality wins. There is work to do from here, but we’ve got a shot to do something special this year.

Stan on track to have an overall winning record after 3 seasons. Who was the last coach that did that?

Was just rewatching the last score by Cam to put us ahead. Not one player celebrated the basket, just 5 players sprinting back as fast as they could to D up. Even after the timeout was called with 12 seconds left, not one guy was celebrating the fact that we just took the lead. They were all 100% focused on the next play and completely locked into getting that last stop. That’s a team that’s plugged in, focused, and well coached. These guys are special.

Stan on track to have an overall winning record after 3 seasons. Who was the last coach that did that? Coach Stan has a 38-34 record right now (.528). There are only three coaches who after their third season with LMU did not have a losing record: .656 Paul Westhead (59-31), 1986-88 .530 William Donovan (44-39), 1953-55 .500 John Arndt (39-39), 1962-64 That’s it. There were two other coaches who didn’t stick around three years who were .500 or better (Jay Hillock was 31-28 the two seasons after Westhead, but poor Coach Hillock had no chance to win over the fan base after replacing Westhead… and Ron Jacobs was 14-14 in 1979-1980 and took the team to the tournament in his only season before leaving to coach professionally). Clearly these types of seasons haven’t come around very often for us. What a great win! Glad they get a week to enjoy it. Go Lions!

Just wanted to check in to this thread after a massive win. Wife and I had never seen an LMU win in Spokane in the 30 years we've been fans. For this year anything is possible and that is an awesome feeling to have this late in the season. Hats off to Stan - has this team clicking and working to it's fullest potential almost every night.
Any thoughts on what PG will look like next year - we will need to bring another lead guard in the portal...

Awesome win. It was an old fashioned alley fight. Cam and Justin hit some huge shots. After that, a lot of of our scoring came off of 2nd efforts and hustle plays. We missed a number of open looks and had a number of bad turnovers - still - we kept grinding on the boards and on defense. Graham and Issanza really took them out of their game and guards pressured them out front. I think we will have to get a plug and play point guard out of the portal next year. They will show whoever it is films of Cam in the pick and roll and say- "do you want to do this?"

A big win like this needs to be parlayed into recruiting, either from high school or the transfer portal.
Johnson will need to replace Cam with another dynamic scoring PG, and he will continue to need the size down low to match up with other bigs from bigger programs. However we are seeing his more modern approach have some success.
A win like this will obviously be a notch on Stan’s belt. So there’s that, but he still needs to solidify consistency I think before other truly bigger programs sniff around.
That being said, this will justify his demand for a bigger budget and better facilities. That’s the thing… a big win like this has LMU trending all over social media, but will the fans show up to the next home games ?

Regarding fan attendance, I’ve noticed a definite up-tick in fan attendance and participation. The San Diego game was a bit of an anomaly due to miserable weather that kept people home. If the team wins, that will draw fans.

Just rewatched the game. Michael Graham had an under the radar phenomenal game, with hustle plays not shown on the stat sheet like running the floor, contesting (if not blocking shots) and tips that led or almost led to offensive boards. But everyone played well. So proud of the team and coaches to break this horrible streak we had up there!

I don’t know if I’d call Graham’s game “under the radar.” He had 9 points and 10 rebounds. Those are impressive numbers against a high quality team and potential POY opponent. As I mentioned in an earlier post, both Issanza and Graham had absolutely outstanding games. The Zags tried to take the ball inside all game long but Issanza and Graham were instrumental in thwarting the Zags gameplan. The Lions had 7 blocks. I’m not sure who got those, but I know several of those blocks belonged to our centers. It’s hard to deny a game ball to Shelton because he truly dominated the game but our centers deserve every accolade you care to throw their way. Hopefully they learned a lot last night that will serve them well in the upcoming games. We truly need that level of all-star performance out of them the rest of the year.

Our statistical rankings seem to be putting us in the high 80s, some of those bad losses are definitely keeping us down - but if we finish .500 in conference I can see being on the bubble of an NIT birth. If we want to be in the conversation for a ticket to the Big Dance I think we would have to finish conference play with only one more loss, meaning another win over Gonzaga or Saint Mary's as well. But I do believe an NIT birth is something we can shoot for after this win and that would be a huge accomplishment for this team, which is cementing it's status as the best LMU team since the Westhead years.
