Although they appear to be a weaker team, they took on a tough schedule. After LMU, they play Tulsa, Missouri and Georgetown. Should be a good chance for Coach Johnson to play with the rotations a bit. I'd like to see a bit more of McBride and a lot more of Harris - they are our future.

The referee who made the bad call on Lars for that first foul a minute into the game is Bill Vinovich, he was the referee at the Bills-Broncos game in Buffalo last night on Monday night football. Maybe he’s suffering jet lag….but kudos to working hard.

Really strange rotations by Stan. Get that it’s early in the season, but when you have two legit 7 footers against an undersized team how are you not playing at least one of them most of the time?

Our interior defense has trouble not fouling - too many “and one”’s for my taste Lions not sharp yet late in the second half

Evans has 19 points in the first nine minutes of the second half. Why not put Lamaj, who specializes in defense, in the game?

Harris is the best player on the team. He needs to start and play a lot more minutes then he’s currently playing

I know it is early, but we are still #89 in KenPom Ratings - kenpom.com/ - so it looks like the Yale loss really didn't hurt us much in keeping a strong profile for a potential post season bid.

We’re definitely looking at the most athletic Lions team in years. The team is strong, fast and aggressive. They’re fun to watch! Right now we have a roster full of really good ball players where everyone is learning their roles and everyone else’s tendencies. It takes time, especially for a team that plays aggressively.
It’s obvious that Harris is a tremendous talent who is going to help the team A LOT. I have no problem bringing him off the bench. He will get his minutes. But I don’t want to see th e team grow reliant on him. To be successful we need strong contributions from numerous players. NOW is the time to nurture the entire team and Coach needs to do what he can to build the talents and confidence of each player.
Our biggest problems right now are on defense. Jackson State hurt us badly tonight on the back doors. Can you imagine what St Mary’s will do?! Our guards aren’t doing enough to stop penetrations. Teams with quality guards and wings will really r Ted are advantage. Our guys are athletic enough that these things shouldn’t be a problem. Hopefully, the coaching staff can instill the defensive rigor needed.
Our guys did not respond well to the press. We have good enough ball handlers. Again, the coaching staff needs to step up and provide a few screening plays to help the guards. There were several times when the guys didn’t even know who was supposed to receive the inbounds pass.
90045 - I’m not sure Lamaj would’ve been the answer on defense. Last year he was probably our best athlete and defender. This year, I think he bay be the least athletic player on the team. The problem we do have is that we are lacking that quality 6’7” wing that almost every strong team has. If Lamaj had developed as hoped, he would be that guy. But he didn’t and we have glaring hole.
I’m concerned with Leaupepe. He’s strong as an ox but he doesn’t look good under the basket. Maybe he bulked up too much?
I thought Jackson State played very hard and their players deserve credit for what they did accomplish. They were super aggressive all game long and never let up. I watched them as they walked by me after the game. Everyone of them was limping. It was a tough game for them.

It is great to see our talented team come together! We do have one of the most athletic and deeper teams on the West Coast. I would challenge our coaching staff to clearly define the roles of our players, while some are carving out naturally. We do have some guys not playing to their strengths and, at times not making the right plays.
I do not see how we can't start Harris, it is clear he is our best player on perhaps both ends. So I am 100% not okay with him continuing to come off the bench and not sure why any of us would be. The eye test and stats clearly show this. I think we are just scratching the surface on offensive and defensive. I am excited to see how we develop and know that we will be somewhere in the top three of our conference, knocking off every team at least once.

Hill and Harris came to the rescue last night, they both look like guys who can go for 20+ points against anyone. I think Wright and Johnston will also have their moments this year. Thiemann only taking one shot against Jackson State is inexcusable, we need to get better at playing inside out with him. Leaupepe is starting the season shooting cold, I expect him to turn it around. I can't remember the last time we had 5 guy score 20+ points in a game in one season but I bet it happens this year, maybe even 6 if Markviladze or Thiemann get enough opportunity in a game. This team is deep, and miles ahead of last years team at this point in the season. Our conference is strong again this year but I expect a top 4 finish again and potentially another win vs Gonzaga or St Marys. I expect our defense to clean it up over the next few games and get right by the time conference starts... This is going to be a fun year.

lmu - I enjoy your optimism. 6 players getting 20+ points in one game would be 120+ team points. This is not the 90s team that actually could do that but I agree we have some scorers on the squad. We are beatable unless we improve out interior defense against guards driving to the basket. There are far too many either finishes at the hoop or fouls for a top defense team. If Wright and Johnson can have games like Hill did last evening, we'll be a really formidable team. Yes, disappointed that our bigs didn't get more shots and worried a bit about Keli. Drew Viney asked Coach Johnson at the half "how will Coach Johnson get Keli going this season." Coach Johnson had a kinda curt reply "I'm not concerned about Keli!" I hope Keli does come around.

Clarification: 6 players who will score 20 points in a game at some point this season, not all in the same game.
