To be honest this year I was really bored with the team. I find most of Stan’s theatrics to lack substance. I know it works for some coaches to dance around and act like they’re playing defense on the court as well but only if it comes with real execution and strategy. I appreciate the passion Stan brought and last season’s big wins. Him vs Dunlap was a great contrast. But Stan’s faults as a creator of strategy are now overshadowing his bravado. I found the style of play to be boring. Do we shoot 3s? Defensive oriented? Big guys? Movement and action? Athletic? Neither of these could describe our season. Just more woeful injuries and overhyped recruits that don’t pan out a la the end of Good’s years. Poor ball movement and still can’t guard the 3. Next season is just a lame duck year in the program. LMU will have to replace whatever talent from a far below .500 team and once again try something out. A lot of these guys have been busts. Romar is a bust too. Once the Pac12 schools come back in we’re toast and then nothing suggests they’ll beat San Fran or Santa Clara. Once again middling around 6-8 Pintens will let go of Stan and Romar will leave and it’s back to square one. |

Pacific hired Dave Smart, Assistant Coach at Texas Tech. Pepperdine hired Ed Schilling, Assistant Coach at Grand Canyon (also spent some time at UCLA under Steve Alford). And Washington St got turned down by Montana State Head Coach Matt Logie; looks like they will now move on to Eastern Washington Head Coach David Riley.

I’ll disagree with slb’s assessment that this year’s team was boring. Frustrating? Absolutely! Played well below their individual capabilities? No doubt. But I thought most of their games were at least entertaining.
Coach Stan keeps the guys moving, albeit not always in the right way. But at least they’re hustling and keeping the game moving. Way too many desperation shots at the waning seconds of the shot clock. Crummy D against the 3s. I could go on but no need.
The hiring of Romar AND Lewis does seem a bit odd, and has some hint of desperation. I think both fill a father-figure role for Coach Stan. We need Romar’s recruiting skills; but who’s going to teach Xs and Os and big man movement? We shall see.
