We did dominate the boards but they didn’t have any starters taller than 6-7 and essentially played a 4-guard line up most of the game. As NBD mentioned earlier this victory shouldn’t be celebrated, it should be expected. Yes it would be amazing if we can all rebound against another team the way we did Saturday, would love to see it and I would love Graham to get 25 minutes a game and just see what happens.

And early on we tried to get our big guys points but our big guys really just can’t score, so it was interesting that Wright and Harris were the two guys that ended up going off in the second half, 6-3 guards, against a four-guard lineup. Our bigs are role players, not scorers.

I love the tenacity that Wright plays with. However, against lower level teams he is good. Against better teams typically struggles. He doesn’t seem to want t make the right basketball play at times, constantly misses open teammates and is really mostly concerned about scoring, which all has it drawbacks and slight benefits.

As NBD mentioned earlier this victory shouldn’t be celebrated, it should be expected. Sorry, but I celebrated this one….and to tell the kids on the squad to not celebrate in any capacity is doing them a huge disservice. The whole season it’s been “this team is not good” from some of our fans yet the minute they get a solid win it’s “DONT CELEBRATE!”. Sure, Pacific is a small team but we absolutely dominated the boards and pulled away with a winning instinct. It was a fun game to be at. Martindale hit some shots to keep Pacific somewhat close. Yes, I’d like to see our bigs play better but you have to enjoy the small victories along the way, otherwise what are we here for.

In my humble opinion I dont think theres anything wrong with demanding excellence from my alma mater. This program needs leaders that demand more than what we have seen over the past couple decades. Maybe thats the source of the problem? Our people's complacency? Just a thought.

Years ago a co-worker introduced to me the term “baby steps.” That is, to get good one must first take baby steps. Then progress to “real” steps and eventually you get to “running.”
Our problem is that we can’t seem to get much beyond the baby steps before we regress. I have no problem celebrating any win, including one over an under-sized Pacific team. But there’s a difference between celebrating and being satisfied. Beating any team is a “baby step” that should be celebrated. But we and the team shouldn’t be satisfied with baby steps. They’re building blocks, not goals.
What AD Pitkins has to figure out is how to get the program beyond baby steps. It’s not easy. There are somewhere around 350 DI teams and most of them flounder year in and year out. It’s do-able and the school has the resources to make it happen. In the past, the university’s “will” to be successful wasn’t there. Now it is. Can we finally break out of the baby steps/regression cycle?
This team has enough talent to win every one of their remaining games. I don’t think they have the talent to be a contender for the national title, but they do have the talent to win the WCC. THAT they (and we) could celebrate AND be satisfied.

For the record, of course I’m happy we won, but Pacific was horrible. I’d be shocked if they win a conference game. You have to take care of business and beat the teams on the schedule, and that’s what we did. First half I think we played to their level, but it was nice to see us pull away in the second half.
And I would love to see Wright and Harris continue their hot shooting this week, and I hope the entire team’s rebounding prowess carries over, as well.
Go Lions!

I mean let's be real, we can all demand excellence on a message board from our alma mater (most of ours I presume), but until everyone in the LMU sphere (alums/staff etc) physically moves our collective NIL needle higher than most other schools in our conference (via $$$), there won't be much change.
Still, GO LIONS!
