Since our loss in January, the Dons lost to the Gaels and the Zags but beat their next 5 WCC opponents. If our depleted crew plays as well as they did against the Zags, it could be an interesting game.
Gametime: Saturday, Feb 17, 6pm in Gersten. Video: ESPN+

I hope we have gas left in the tank after Thursday’s impressive effort.
Go Lions!

Alex is the only one generating offense thru 15 minutes. Interior defense is non-existent.
Dons up 14

It doesnt help us missing our best player. If any one has question the impact of missing one of the best 3 point shooters in the country (statistically) and a top 8 scorer in league (Dom) .. along with our most physical player (Keli).

After everything we did to go toe-to-toe with Gonzaga for as long as we did the other night, I’m not shocked that we didn’t have much left on the tank tonight. Glad to see Lamaj on the bench tonight, hopefully that’s a good sign that he might be ready to play next week.
Also, interesting during the Gonzaga telecast that they mentioned that CSJ didn’t want to burn Ristic’s redshirt, so they dressed him just in case they had to use him (but hoping they wouldn’t need to). If the coaching staff thinks that highly of him that they want to save a full season, hopefully that’s a sign that he’ll be ready to help us next year.

Alex played a very good game. Everyone hustled but the Dons had too much talent to overcome. Mogbo has enough athleticism to reach the next level.

Such a bummer this season. Between this and a bunch of runners and swimmers super pissed at him, AD Pintens is having a tough year. Hey, I will say if we get all ours guys back our chances of making a miracle run in Vegas are more than 0

Such a bummer this season. Between this and a bunch of runners and swimmers super pissed at him, AD Pintens is having a tough year. Hey, I will say if we get all ours guys back our chances of making a miracle run in Vegas are more than 0 Saw quite a few people wearing “Save LMU Sports” t-shirts inside Gersten on Saturday night (in addition to lawn signs just outside campus). Day of Giving numbers for Athletics dropped 38% (compared to last year). www.savelmusports.com

I’m not surprised the giving day dropped so much. While I’m sure our previous donors to the 6 sports being dropped didn’t donate anything, the basketball team’s poor showing this season had to have an even bigger impact. Coach Stan has talked a big game but he’s not delivering a product that fans and donors can believe in. Varying levels of mediocrity with an occasional good showing is exactly what the program has suffered through since the Westhead glory years. Donors will make the investment but they want some reasonable assurance that there will be a return on their investment. Pintens and Johnson both need to show us a plan for moving ahead in the right direction. Not just empty words like we’ve heard before, but something much more concrete.
While I agree that the whole NIL issue is drastically changing the NCAA athletics scene (and for the worse in my opinion), I think blaming NIL participation is a cop out. If the NCAA doesn’t do something, the Alabama’s of the world will have insurmountable advantages. But LMU has some advantages as well. My understanding is that the university is actually doing fairly well (not great perhaps but better than most of our peers) with NIL funds. LA is a big city with tons of media exposure opportunities. The school needs to continue its proactive initiatives in this area. But little will result if we can’t get our premier sport (Men’s BB) off the floor.
I do disagree with stopping the 6 identified sports. The school has a pretty rich rowing history and it’s already made the investment in needed facilities. Why stop now? As far as track and CC go, they require minimal investment and have been seeing some nice successes. If only our BB coaches could figure out how to have similar successes….
