Who are you going to hire? Nobody is taking this program seriously until you build better facilities. Them begging to have a winning team to inspire donations isn’t going to work.
They needed to hire Russell Turner years ago.
With the transfer portal and almost total roster turnover year to year sometimes teams don't gel (see Arkansas this year). This year's team never really clicked. It was a swing and a miss.
Stan gets one more year. He needs to dramatically improve his X's and O's. At times we look like an AAU team.
Our facilities are not an excuse. St. Mary's has a significantly worse gym.
Yes we whiffed on Russ Turner not once but twice. He really wanted to come here and was a big fan of our teams in the late 80s. That's all on Husak. The less said about Bayno the better.
We need to think outside the box. Follow the St. Mary's model. Go the Princeton/Bellarmine route. Get overseas players and develop them. At this point anything is better.
For the love of Lion hire a coach who can actually COACH. We aren't going to beat the upper tier conference team's consistently by out-talenting them and every coach save Romar and the Pacific trainwreck are better at X's and O's.
Stop hiring ace recruiters at big schools. It didn't work with Tention, it didn't work with Bayno, it isn't working with Stan. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over. Our program is insane. Find a solid developmental coach at a school with a great teacher. Turner, Golden, Kyle Smith, Tommy Lloyd (earlier years). All could have been had.
34 fricking years since we've been in the NCAA and we've only really been close once (cue Chris Ayer nightmares).
If you look up the cycle of suck in the dictionary we are the picture.
We are not really close and morale and support is an all-time low.
It can be done but not if we don't do something drastic.
See you next year for Stan's last hurrah. Unless his middle name is Houdini there is no rabbit coming out of the hat.
