According to their website, Academy of Art is D-II, and this'll be their first ever season of athletic competition.
I don't know if I like the Thursday-Saturday move. Means that we probably lost out on the lucrative ESPN Big Monday contract.
Additionally, I found the tentative schedule (no times). Here's the dates and opponents:
November 3 - vs. Hope International November 14-16 - @ World Vision Classic, Ames, IA (UC Davis, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Iowa St.) November 21 - vs. Notre Dame November 24 - @ Wagner November 29 - @ Arkansas-Little Rock December 2 - @ Arizona December 6 - vs. Wyoming (Homecoming) December 13 - @ UC Santa Barbara December 15 - vs. UC Riverside December 17 - @ UCLA December 20 - vs. Tulsa December 22 - vs. Mercer December 30 - @ New Mexico State January 1 - @ Seattle January 4 - vs. Cal State Bakersfield January 10 - vs. Pepperdine January 15 - @ St. Mary's January 17 - @ San Diego January 22 - vs. Portland January 24 - vs. Gonzaga January 29 - @ Santa Clara January 31 - @ San Francisco February 7 - @ Pepperdine February 12 - vs. San Diego February 14 - vs. Santa Clara February 19 - @ Gonzaga February 21 - @ Portland February 26 - vs. San Francisco February 28 - vs. St. Mary's March 6-9 - WCC Tournament

Thanks for posting the schedule, it is nice to see all the names on one list now. It isn't a bad lineup. We are still rebuilding so this is good, it is better than last season and we still have our prior commitments. I hope the Arizona game gets picked up on FSN. Notre Dame and Tulsa at home are pretty good. Could do without CSUB. Hmm, I wonder what our new TV package will look like? Who will replace us in Big Monday? This is a good question for me to look into.

A THURSDAY/SATURDAY combination has a HUGE UPSIDE for the confernce. If anyone of you know about the television/entertainment industry, Thursday night is much more lucrative than Monday. I am very very confident that this will continue to propel our conference in the right direction. ESPN will cover the THURSDAY night and some SATURDAY night games under the contract. Game Day switch for the WCC was at ESPN'S request. Some positives from the switch...... 1) Thursday night is more high profile 2) Attendance at LMU Games should rise considerably....this should be the party before the party. Some challenges from the switch.... 1) Television and media competition in the big markets for the WCC. In L.A. and S.F., we will have a Pac-10 television battle. However, Pac-10 is being televised on regional sports networks (Fox Sports West, Prime Ticket, Comcast Bay Area, etc.) and ESPN will be seen nationally on a recognized channel by all. Sure the Pac-10 games are aired nationally on the Fox Sports Regional Networks across the country, but ESPN gets much more eyeballs. I LOVE THE THURSDAY/SATURDAY lineup. Finally the WORLDWIDE LEADER is respecting the WCC. I must admit, though, those December 15, 20, 23 and January 3 home games are scheduled horribly. VERY VERY VERY VERY LIMITED ATTENDANCE FROM STUDENTS because of the holiday break. The Pepperdine game on the January 10 will be difficult as well considering that classes begin on January 12. In total, 6 out of the 13 home games we will have limited student attendance because of the holiday break. I will forgive the January 10 game because every other year each WCC team suffers from this. But the Dec. 15, 20, 22 are a bit too much. Even for the season tix holders.....Christmas week is a tough sale.

I will be in L.A. Christmas week and it will be the only time I can check out the new coach and team this year. Nobody will confuse me with a student any more but we can still make noise.

The change from D2 to D1 is a four year process. Starting this year SU will play a hyrid schedule of D1 and D2 opponents.

If it means anything, the nicknames for the A of Arts athletic teams are the "Urban Knights."

Thanks for the link unbanlion. A few additional comments about Seattle U: Their home games will be at Key Arena and the place will be like a tomb, with 2,000 people max watching in a huge space. Their AD is an empty suit, and the same guy who got USF in trouble by bringing in coaches with questionable character leading to terrible academic problems. Will he do the same to get the Red Hawks going? Their athletic fundraising appeals have resulted in even worse results than ours. Finally, the conference's resistance to bringing SU in is all about money. The conference, and all the teams in it, benefit from the participation of the teams in the NCAA tournament - both in how many teams play and how deep into the tourney you get. Seattle's coming in means lower RPIs for the rest of the teams and consequently a smaller chance of getting more teams into the tourney - and less money to spread around.

KEEP OUT SEATLE UNIVERSITY. I realize they are Jesuits too, but we don't need 1 program dragging down the WCC when it is coming off the best year in its highest profile sport. I don't want expansion, but to stave this off politically, the WCC members should say "no, thanks as we need two teams to expand, not just one." Husak is not helping the matter by scheduling Seatle on the docket this year.

I think expansion is a few years down the road. UofP has a good program and SU needs a few years to build. I don't think we have to worry about this for quite some time.

I like how the WCC handled this situation. No way we can let SU in right now. They do not have the number of sports and they will be very weak in the next 4-5 years transitioning out of the D2 world. They need to prove that they are committed to all their sports and especially mens basketball before they can be let in. I think they'll get there but it won't be anytime soon. UofP should be allowed in now, I don't know why we keep rejecting them except they would take away from our NCAA money and not add much more without a partner.
oldestlion is right about key arena. That is a what 20,000 seat arena that will be filled to about 10% capacity. Not fun.
