look what vernon put on drew viney's facebook wall!!! "you ready to put lmu on the map!" LMU will finally be put on the map from a sports perspective. ;D It will not be the best kept secret in Los Angeles anymore. I wish Lawton would give the kind of orders he gave to Bove, Husak, and Bayno about letting the sun shine on LMU and generating greater publicity. Our colleges within the university are doing well, but national recognition is spotty. The College of Business Administration's MBA and Entrepreneurship program has been ranked, but that is very niche. We need the undergraduate programs (the vast majority of our education) needs national recognition. The Deans of the colleges need to start pumping it to the educational outlets and rankers. Hopefully with the foreseeable increased publicity on sports, the colleges will ride the wave that it creates. But they also need to do their own. Let's go LMU Deans!

We need more cash, seriously. I think that is why Lawton has recently been able to get more people on his side to lift athletics. Our campaign has stalled and there will be nothing better to get university donors to open their wallets than LMU in march madness making a little noise.
With the lineup that Bayno is putting together that isn't a distant dream. ;D
Welcome Teel.

Teel ultimately wound up at JUCO powerhouse Chipola in Marianna, Fla,, this Fall, averaging 8.7 points as a freshman on a team bristling with Division I talent.
Contacted by Kentucky and Oklahoma. Average 35ppg in HS.
At least most of are excited. Heart of a Lion...I don't know what your issues is...did you get released?

heartofalion: Are you by any case connected with dead3man or deadwiler as you keep trying to minimize the incoming recruits. Teel will definitely limit Deadwiler's playing time. heartofalion, what is your issues? Bayno has brought in the best talent we have seen on paper in nearly two decades. One could argue that after he has filled all open scholarships, he could have assembled the best recruiting class on paper ever at LMU. So what is your problem. I see vast improvements in recruiting and an immediate impact with Bayno. Do you see otherwise?

No joke, that this is easily becoming the most talented recruiting class on paper in LMU history and we are still not done. I'll drink to that.

We still have to hear about the Euro. Also Teel mentioned" It's not just going to be me and Larry (from New York if I commit)." Can we expect another recruit from the Empire state soon?

Yes vernon teel seals the deal. I am very excited for Vernon because: 1. We desperately needed a point guard, and Vernon should be able to perform this well as he has been playing the position the past year and all colleges were recruiting him for that position. 2. He will be able to come in next year and contribute right away. 3. He will be able to be here for 3 years. 4. Opens up even more recruiting options in the New York area for this year and the future.
Hopefully we will get a big man like Edgar Garibay to complete this class now. I am stoked for the future of Lion Basketball.
Go Lions

A nice story from Scout NY.
Chipola Junior College scoring guard Vernon Teel lent some insight into his decision to commit to Loyola Marymount, and what put him over the top. "The most important part of the decision is that I wanted to be able to turn a program around," said Teel, a Queens native. "I wanted to be able to leave my mark on a program. Loyola Marymount hasn't been to the tournament since 1990. I think with the people we've got coming in that we'll have a chance to do that."
Loyola coach Bill Bayno's visit to Teel's home was an overriding factor in his decision.
"The fact that Coach Bayno flew in and came to my house, met my mom and my family, that put me over the edge before I took the visit," said Teel. "That kind of sealed the deal."
Teel had also taken an official visit to Louisiana Tech and fielded interest from Oklahoma St. and Kentucky. Initially, he had wanted to play in a major conference, but after going through the recruiting process, reconsidered.
"I didn't want to have to keep looking over my shoulder every year with the players that would be coming in," said Teel, who enrolled at Chipola after redshirting as a freshman at Long Island University in Brooklyn. "I just tranferred from a school and this would be a last chance. I felt if I went high major it would have been a big risk- a risk I didn't want to take."
Part of the appeal of LMU was the opportunity for Teel to step in and have an impact. The program will have a pair of four-year college transfers sitting out in 2008-2009 in fellow New Yorker and ex-Seton Hall guard Larry Davis and former Oregon forward Drew Viney. Teel, who has three years of eligibility remaining, will be pressed into action early.
"They want me to play the '1' and the '2'," said Teel, who averaged 8.7 points on a Chipola team with a slew of Division I prospects. "I'm going to score a lot more this year, because we've got two guys that are sitting out. I'm going to have to carry the scoring load.
"I'm coming in right away and I'm going to play right away. In order for us to win next
