Alert posted this on the 16th but now things are really sounding good.
From Scout:
I spoke with Bill Hankins, Rudd’s guardian and club team coach with 2D1 Academy, about Rudd’s recruitment recently.
“He’s still very interested in USC and he’s been to the campus,” said Hankins. “Loyola Marymount is in the picture now that Coach Bayno is on board there. Kansas, Tennessee and Memphis have all been calling as well.”
I asked Hankins about the issues that might influence his decision.
“He wants to be close to home, which is why I think LMU has a really good shot,” said Hankins. “They’re trying to get players that can help them compete on a national level and they’re looking to recruit athletes on the wing like Victor. But USC is also very high on his list. We haven’t heard much from UCLA, but they’re another local school that Victor would be intererested in.”
Hankins said Rudd currently has a 3.0 GPA.

I believe SC was just docked two scholarships-This only helps our chances. Victor would be an amazing recruit for us! To have LMU in mentioned with schools like Kansas,Tennesse and Memphis is pretty amazing in itself.
Rudd his a high caliber weapon to have in our arsenal.

It would be a really big deal if we could get him to come here.

There is an article in Monday's Daily News which talks about Rudd leading his club team at the BCA Memorial Day tournament in Lynwood. No mention of LMU, which is fine (nice to be under the radar). What caught my eye was the note at the end regarding a former teammate of Rudd's at Van Nuys HS, Justus Von Wright, who spent time at a North Carolina prep school last year and scored 25 of his team's 61 points in a club game. Maybe we can get Wright to lure Rudd? Here's the article... www.dailynews.com/preps/ci_9381148

Going back to Justus Von Wright, does anyone else know anything about him? All I could find was an article from January regarding his prep school season in North Carolina. He's listed as a 6-6 forward averaging 20 points and 8 rebounds. Checking out the list of schools at the bottom of the article, the list wouldn't even be a recruiting challenge for the great Bayno! www.miamivalleysports.com/?p=951

I think it is amazing that we are in the running for a recruit who is hearing from both teams who were in the national championship this year. It sounds like we are in the lead or at least co leader with USC. I think we have a real good chance.

lambdachi, I agree that it is amazing for LMU to be in the running for a recruit that is hearing from both of the teams who were in the national championship game. However, I seriously doubt that LMU is in the lead. I saw the comments posted above but if Rudd is going to wait until the Spring to sign it sounds like LMU is a stalking horse. If he wants to stay locally and UCLA isn't talking to him yet and he is waiting to see what USC incurs for the OJ Mayo fiasco, it makes sense to say LMU has a shot. I very much hope he selects LMU but if he waits until the Spring I suspect that the chances that happens go down significantly.

If UCLA gets involved, things could change. I don't think we are in the lead but must be at least tied with SC in our chances. It will be interesting to see how the OJ issues impacts the situation.

More inroads with local talent. I think we should stay optimistic. Top 75 material, that would be amazing. I hope the NCAA comes down hard on our dear trojan friends.

latest run down per scout:
6-8 JR PF Van Nuys (Calif.) High. Played a great game in the afternoon. Rudd might be the most talented player in the west for 2009. He doesn’t always use that talent to the best of his ability. However, if he puts it all together and learns to play with consistent focus and energy, he’s an elite prospect.

Scout has just named Rudd the number one power-forward in the West. And stays if he can learn to play with a constant focus and intensity he will be one of the elite prospect in the nation. Go Lions

I really hope Bayno can get Victor Rudd to commit as soon as possible. The longer Victor takes to make his chance the worse I think or chances become I believe. He seems to be rising up the charts, and the more that happens the more big time programs will get involved. I have a good feeling that he will be a lion.

Nothing less than a coup if Bayno can get this elite prospect to commit to LMU. I am really happy to see us in there. His phone is probably hot right now because I'm sure scouts are noticing.
