I was astonished to read Vista's last night and see Gene Pingatore (the scumbag coach in the film Hoop Dreams) is an alumni of LMU. Not sure if anyone on this board has seen the film, but Pingatore personifies the atypical high school coach who tosses morals out the window to keep a pathetic winning streak alive. I can't say how disappointed I was to see this low life mentioned and praised as being one of the most successful coaches in Illinois history. Please let Vista's know that we have far better alumni to focus our attention on than a man like Gene Pingatore.

"You people just refuse to work. You don't know what it is to be intense! And if you don't have it, you're gonna be crap for this team.!
Give me a good reason why I should keep you on this team, Corey. How 'bout you, Reed Give me a good reason.
What do you think, William? I mean, how many of these people work hard?"

Gene Pingatore is currently cruising the ghetto in his Cadillac w/personalized plates searching for his next black meal ticket. What a terrific example of Jesuit values. I didn't know you could major in being a SCUMBAG at LMU.

Welcome phxlion. :DWhere did you see that Pingatore was an LMU almuni? Looked through the online Vistas and didn't see any articles about him. Hoops Dreams is considered among the best documentaries of all time. You can netflix it or watch the entire thing for free here www.hulu.com/hoop-dreams Admin Edit: Scumbag is a strong word when characterizing alumni. Commenter TB would like to offer a rebuttal to such characterizations of Pingatore. Gene graduated in '59 and moved back to Chicago. He was recruited by Bill McMahon '57 and both played for the Lions.
I would have added that no judgment should have been made regarding Gene unless his critics actually know him as I do. The use of "scumbag" and other assaults on his character is both inaccurate and out of place. The critics assume that the documentary is both unbiased and accurate, which it is not. Michael Moore's attempts at hatchet jobs are good examples.
The people who can tell you about Gene and what he has done for high school players, both during and after their playing days, are his former players, their parents and the nation's high school and college coaches. The testimonials from people who have nothing to gain from praising him are legion.

His picture was in the alumni section of the Vista's. Apparently he was attending a White Sox Vs. Cubs match-up with some friends. I was shocked and sickened to see that morally bankrupt assclown actually attended our university.

phxlion-
Misplaced politcal stereotypes aside (libratarian here), I wish you didn't say that. I have family (grandparents) that may have to evacuate their homes bc of Ike, which is a frightening situation, to be sure, when you're up there in years.
What's more, there are 22 deckhands in the middle of this storm, not knowing whether they will be rescued from the impending capsizing of their freighter.
Many people will lose their homes due to this storm, and some will likely lose their lives. Making light of that due to a six-word comment on a ncaa message board is in extremely poor taste, imho.
To everyone else- Sorry--I hate to be the brother of Deborah Downer here, but i wanted to approach this head-on.

Let's say a prayer for those in harms way. Beyond that, it's fine to keep it light. The comment was not mean spirited.

Listen Pal. My neice goes to Texas A&M marine biology campus near Galvasten. "heck of a job brownie"
Admin Edit: Ok. No need for more fire and brimstone (politics). We all love TX and feel sad for hurricane victims. Let's focus on hoops and leave FEMA to the watercooler.

phxlion,
My day would have been much better off without your posts. If you don't have any insight / opinion on LMU Hoops please refrain from posting here from now on. There is no need to insult fellow Lions and their families....
