Welcome bcast . Great rundown. I'd say about 300+ fans showed up for the scrimmage. The website has a PR about philanthropic angle of the men's team this season but mentions that 180 donors showed up for the luncheon. lmulions.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/101908aaa.htmlAbout the physicality of the team, we are wirey and athletic. A new weight room will do our players good. There was a clear difference between Bayno's younger recruits and the legacy players. We'll likely be starting all freshmen. Clearly some rust and nerves but that should improve with practice. I can't wait until the season starts.

I was really impressed with the number of people that turned up for the Tip off scrimmage. To me it really demonstrated the excitement of the direction of the program. It was great to see all the coach and players together on the court after the months of waiting. I also had a chance to watch practice the day before and attitude and energy is like a night and day difference from last year. I'm going to wait to give individual break down of players but in general we have a really fast and athletic team. A lot of youth but the potential of each player is really great.

A couple of notes.
Viney is recovering from being sick and didn't play. Deiderichs is nursing an injury and they are being careful with him and that's why he didn't play. Not sure why Davis didn't play.
Next year you can add Davis and Viney as go-to guys. This year... we'll see who steps up.

I'd do a Good/Bad/Ugly, but 1-it was a scrimmage, and 2-I wasn't exactly firing on all cylinders during the game, so my retention was limited.
-Teel is fearless, and has the strength/quickness to make his fearlessness a positive. -Deric, not so much. I really hope the young'ins don't defer to him this year the way decent, hardworking freshmen defer to roided 5'2" pledge-masters who get away with 6am maimings on the beach. We want these kids to blossom, and not think that 3 for 15 shooting nights and "Eat Your Cell Phone" hazing rituals are what college stands for. -DuBois has a really good feel for the game. Once he has a couple protein shakes, he'll be very good. -Ashley Hamilton shouldn't have a G or F next to his name on the box score; it should be ATH. This is a compliment.
Of note: Davis/Viney were shooting around during halftime, half-assed, and were still so pure from 18 feet on out. That may have been the highlight of the scrimmage, though I shouldn't take away from the enthusiasm of the players who did participate.
The game was about as sloppy as I was the night before, which is OK because both our displays held no real purpose besides sheer entertainment/curiosity.

Just being frank (as always), but I think Bill Bayno was quite embarrassed on the shooting effort yesterday. It was rather dreadful. I think the scrimmage served as more of a wake up call for Bill Bayno than it did for the players. Bill and the coaching staff have a considerable amount of work ahead of them and they wish that there was no NCAA rule on red-shirt years after a transfer. He needs Viney and Davis. Bill seemed uncomfortable yesterday. Not sure if it was the crowd and realizing that he is in charge of this ship, but he did not look like himself. Nervous motions I was picking up.
On a very positive note, I thought Vernon Teel was extremely competitive and has "raw" talent. He is quick to the ball. I thinking he will definitely pick off a couple of steals a game for us this year.
Sweezy, Counts, and Kanne look D2 next to the new talent. No slap at them, but rather a complement to Bill Bayno for bringing in top notch talent.
Overall, yesterday was a glimspe at the new era of LMU Men's Basketball. As you probably know, I am a harsh critic, but even I must admit there is a considerable change sweeping across Westchester and LMU is destined for great things over the next couple years. Bill Bayno will take LMU back to glory and beyond.
Just Say Bayno!
