Nice opportunity for a LMU alumni. sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3659611Will be interesting to see if the recruits will honor their commitments or look else where. I know the Zags would love to have a chance at Solomon Hill and Abdul Gaddy. On the more negative side for them, Mark Few names is sure to be placed in the hat to take over the program. Should be interesting to watch. Go Lions.

Looks like Mike demaned being head coach and was given his walking papers. AZ will probably start a nation wide search soon. Jamie Dixon at Pitt and Mark Few from Gonzaga are the names everybody has mentioned so far.

Alert, When you say Mark Few cannot do any damage in the post season, what exactly are you referring to? The man has taken a Jesuit School located in Spokane Washington to 3 Sweet Sixteen Appearances and nine straight NCAA Tournament births. I would say this is pretty good for a tiny school like Gonzaga.
And to your second point, I do not see Few leaving Gonzaga, even for the money Arizona would offer him. Few loves Spokane for numerous reasons. One being that he is able to fly fish all the time. He is seen as an icon at that school and has no pressure at all. He continually has success in the WCC and will continue to be # 1 or 2 in the league for years to come. He has built a dynasty at Gonzaga. Until he wins a national title at Gonzaga, he is staying put

I think Few will stay. I think the only school he would really consider going to is Oregon.

For a little school like Gonzaga to even be mentioned as legit final four contenders is enough for Few to be recognized as one of the great coaches in the game. I think 3 sweet sixteens and one elite eight as an assistant coach in 9 years is pretty damn good.

For the good of the conference, I hope Few does not consider AZ.
But back to the "success" of Few and Gonzaga.....I honestly think Bayno will do more quicker and go farther than Few has done at Gonzaga. Bayno knows LMU is the sleeping giant and when it awakens from its deep slumber, who knows what is possible. One thing that excites me about Bayno is he is absolutely, by far the greatest recruiter LMU or the WCC has ever had. Look at the magic he has pulled off in such a short time. I'm excited and cannot wait for Bayno and our Lions to blow over the Bulldogs with Few at the helm. For that alone, please Mr. Few don't pick up that AZ call.

Haha lionspride, I love your enthusiam man. And id say 95 % of the time I agree with the stuff you say. Did you hear they are doing the dunk contest that we had lobbied for? Pretty tight.
However, your comment about Bayno being absolutely the best recruiter the WCC has ever had is way premature. I am not saying when it is all said and done this wont be true. However, he hasnt even had the job for a year. Lets not annoint him Jesus Christ just yet. Few brings in multiple four star players every year. This is because not only does his school produce NBA players, go to the NCAA tournament every year, but he also is a damn good recruiter.
I am as enamored with the stuff Bayno has been doing so far as any of you are. But lets not be too biased when comparing Bayno to Few.

Zagfan4life...Let me clarify....when the dust settles in 4 to 5 years....Bayno will have completely outshined Few by 1) pound for pound getting better recruits than Gonzaga, 2) having more WCC Titles, and 3) going farther into the Big Dance than Few has ever done. [clarification: when comparing Bayno and Few's output over the same 4-5 years] Yes, premature to say Bayno has outshined Few in 6 months at the job, but at the end of the day (4 to 5 years from today) we will be able to say Bill Bayno was/is the best recruiter the WCC has ever seen. P.S., how do you like that Husak & Co. opened Gersten to BOTH sides for seating for March Madness. And HOW BOUT that slam dunk contest. A bit more basketball at Midnight Madness. Let's just say, zagfan4life, that you and I have a bit more insight into this sports business of college sports than the joeplumber on this board wanting to have a Midnight Madness focused on Dance Compeition. If JoePlumber wants that, he should tune into ABC for Dancing with the Stars to get his fix for mixing dancing with professional athletes. Glad to see Husak is reading those letters from boosters and alumni.

He cant win more WCC titles in 4 -5 years on the job. Few has already won 8 in his tenure.
That being said, I hope Bayno is as successful as you believe he will be. All signs point in the right direction as of now.
Cant wait for the season to start!
Any guesses on who will be in the dunk contest?
Ill go with Young, Viney, Davis, Teel, and Hamilton. ... armstead maybe???

He cant win more WCC titles in 4 -5 years on the job. Few has already won 8 in his tenure. Additional clarification Zagfan4life......head to head over the next 5 years, Bayno will have more WCC titles than Few (that is if Few even stays for those 5 years). Bayno will be more successful in the next 5 years than Few. And that is even giving Few a major headstart this year as it would be all but a miracle if LMU pulls out the WCC. My money is on YOUNG. I would love for Counts to give it a try tonight and either bring the fans to laughter or really shock the $h^& out of us.

Not sure if counts can dunk, but it would be great if he tried to let us know.

I didn't know much about Dunlap except he is alumni and he ran an excellent program at Metro State. I think he over played his hand at Arizona. And now he is going to eat a big slice of humble pie. From what I heard he turned LMU down twice. So enjoy that pie Mikey...you can't go from a D2 program to demanding to be head coach of a Pac 10 team.
