So, the Weather Channel ( www.weather.com/weather/tenday/USIA0026?from=36hr_topnav_undeclared) has a very chilly weekend forecast for Ames, Iowa. Friday 43/27, Saturday 37/21, and Sunday 44/30 are the highs/lows. Hopefully, LMU comes out warmer than the weather forecast. Any predictions for our very young Lions in this weekend's World Vision Classic in Ames, Iowa? Anyone want to go on the record? I will be thrilled with us going 2-1 on the weekend. UC Davis and Milwaukee-Wisconsin (this game will be tough) being the wins. Iowa State Cyclones (hey, goes along with my weather theme) would be difficult on their home court and dealing with their front line. Go Lions!

I was doing a bit of research about Milwaukee-Wisconsin and it seems they had nine players leave the team last year for disciplinary reasons. What is going on there!

Let me update the message board directory. Here is UWM uwmfreak.proboards5.com/According to CHN's very rough pre-rankings LMU will be the underdog. We are ranked ~270 to UWM's 220 in the nation.

As posted on a Iowa Cyclone blog. The game will much more competitive than they imagine. I don't expect all three wins or even all three games to be competitive - the kids will have high highs and low lows as figure out who they are - they might look remarkedly different from one game to anther - that being said - I want them to win them all. section202.blogspot.com/2008/11/world-vision-classic-preview.htmlLoyola-Marymount * Location: Los Angeles, CA * Nickname: Lions * Enrollment: 5,560 Undergrads * Colors: Crimson, Navy, and Gray * Conference: West Coast Conference * 2007-2008 Record: 5-26 (2-12 in Conference Play) * Head Coach: Bill Bayno Key Players: * # 1 Corey Counts - A 5'10 Senior Point Guard from Los Angeles, California. He started as a walk on but is now a scholarship player. Made the All-WCC academic team as well. Averaged 6.1 points, 1.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 0.52 steals per game in 26.7 minutes. Led the team last year in 3 point % at 38.9% * #12 Marko Deric - A 6'9 Senior Forward from Perth, Australia. Started all 31 games for the Lions. Averages 5.8 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. Has an outside game as well as he shot 36.6% from 3 point range. * #32 Tim Diederichs - A 6'9 Sophomore Forward from Seattle, WA. As a freshman he started all games for the Lions. He is also the top returning scorer and rebounder. He averaged 8.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.19 assists per game. Analysis: Loyola-Marymount has a new head coach this season in Bill Bayno. He coached UNLV from 1995 to 2000, leading them to NCAA tournament appearances in 1998 and 2000. His record as a head coach is 95-64 all with UNLV. He was fired from UNLV in 2000 as some improper recruiting violations stemmed with some boosters who were also friend with Bayno. Bayno was never implicated but was fired from the University anyways. Loyola has basically almost all new players as there are 6 new comers on the team, 5 of them are freshman. Although they are happy with incoming recruits, they got into the recruiting game late this past year. I would expect Loyola to have another rough season, as they already were one of the worst teams and they will not have very much playing experience. If you look at their 3 best players, nothing really jumps out at you from the stat page. I would expect Loyola to have a rough year, and they didn't make their lives easier with their non-conference schedule. They will be playing ISU, UW-Milwaukee, Norte Dame, Arizona, and New Mexico State to name a few. Overall not an impressive team. I'm not sure where the points will come from on this team. 3 of their returning starters are averaging a combined 18 points per game. One word of warning, however, is their point guard Counts did go off on Gonzaga last year and dropped 20 points. He's capable of putting up big numbers for a big game, but I wouldn't expect it. Prediction: ISU 80, Loyola 50

Milwaukee fan here just stopping by to give a brief rundown of the team.
Starting Five G: Ricky Franklin - Sr. - most consistent returning starter G: Deonte Roberts - So. - slasher who made Horizon all-newcomer team. G: Tone Boyle - Jr. (JUCO transfer) F: Tony Meier - Fr. F: Anthony Hill - So.
Bench G: Avery Smith - Milwaukee's most dynamic scorer but has to sit out the first 2 games because he participated in a scrimmage before being asked to leave the team. G: Deion James - shooter who runs hot & cold F: James Eayrs - JUCO transfer that avg 24 ppg last year but competition was suspect. G: Charlie Swiggett - Starting PG as a Freshman until he blew out his knee in January of 07. Looks like he may finally be healthy after a disappointing sophomore campaign. F: Kaylan Anderson - defensive specialist. F: Jason Averkamp - walk-on who played his way into the rotation last year F: Burleigh Porte - Not sure is he will play of not because he was injured for the first exhibition game and missed the second due to a death in the family. Offensively challenged but blocked 4 shots a game at Olney Central C.C. last year
As a Milwaukee fan, I'm not really sure what to expect after the team's top two players graduated and the malcontents were kicked off the team. It may take a few games to gel with each other.

Hey everyone...Milwaukee Panther fan here as well. I just had a little more to add to what Kingsbury had already stated. Last year, we finished the season at 14-16 amid the turmoil of losing a preseason 1st team All Conference guard in Avery Smith (who has returned to the program this season), and losing the top scorer (18 points per) through 10 games due to a run in with the law. We also lost two of the most hyped recruits (arguably) in UWM history because of their desire to be the I in the TEAM. We also lost a key sophomore due to his desire to be closer to his newborn child. After the first 10 games in which we lost these players, we reeled off wins in 9 of the next 10 games losing only to Butler, who had a tremendous season. We finished the season in a rough patch, but we return much of the team that gelled together last season and we expect to improve on last season by a few wins at least.
It seems like your coach is bringing in some awesome talent. I'm sure you guys will be a fun match up. Ricky Franklin is much improved upon a season where he averaged nearly 10 points a game and we feel we've added a couple of freshman and JUCO transfers that will help us a ton. Watch out for Anthony Hill down low. He's been a horse in the post in the first two exhibition games, although they were against inferior teams. It will be interesting to see how we match up with you guys size-wise. We don't have a lot of bigs, but we have a few guys between 6-6 and 6-8 who can play on the wing and down low. We also have a glut of ultra-quick guards who will take it to the hole when necessary. Good luck on Friday...you may need it!

welcome jgpanther. I'm expecting the Lions to win out. Texascat, good link here is the Milwaukee part UW-Milwaukee * Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin * Nickname: Panthers * Enrollment: 28,000 * Colors: Black and Gold (Gosh I HATE those colors -> lol) * Conference: Horizion League * 2007-2008 Record: 14-16 (9-9 in League Play) * Head Coach: Rob Jeter Key Players: * # 2 Deonte Roberts - 6'3 Sophomore Guard from Saint Paul, MN. Averaged 7.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.4 Assists per game. Member of the League All-Newcomer Team. Tied for most assists by a freshmen in UW-Milwaukee history. He only shot 2 3 pointers so he isn't a long range threat, and he shot only 50% from FT range as well. From looking at his stats, he doesn't seem to be much of a jump shooter, but perhaps more of a driver and distributer. * # 5 Ricky Franklin - 6'1 Senior Guard from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Averaged 9.8 Points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.6 Assists per game. Started the last 26 games of the season. He was the teams 2rd leading scorer last year. He scores a decent amount of points, but he takes a lot of shots at a low percentage. Averages 4.6 3 point attempts per game, yet shoots only 32% from 3 point range. Almost half of his shots are from 3 point range, and his field goal percentage is a low 34%. If he's cold against us, then no worries. If he gets hot, it looks like he can pile on the points as he shoots a large number of 3s. * # 0 Avery Smith - 6'3 Senior Guard from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Sat out all of last season for a violation of team rules. Last year, he was a Preseason All-League selection before getting suspended. He's back this year and he's dangerous on offense. He averaged 15.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. He's capable of scoring 20-30 points a game, as he's scored over 30 3 times, and over 20 8 times in 2006-2007. Analysis: UW-Milwaukee is a respected mid-major team. When looking over their roster, I think they have some scoring ability. They have slashing guards that can drive, and put the ball in the hoop. When looking at their team last year, you see an average numbers but they were missing their best scorer, Avery Smith. Now they have him back, along with 5 upperclassmen. What I look for with this game is how our guards defend their guards. I don't know if they have anyone that can contain Brackins, and overall I'm not too worried about the Panthers' defense, as their blocks and steals numbers aren't too impressive. If the Panthers guards don't get hot, or if we can contain them we win this game easily. If Avery and Franklin go off, I'm a bit worried as I don't know if we have enough offensive power to get into a high scoring affair. Prediction: ISU 68, UW-Milwaukee 66.... I think it's a closer game than we'd like. I think our team gets worn a bit. I'd expect this game to be pretty competitive and I hope we win. At this point, I wouldn't be shocked if we lost either. A lot of it will depend on how we look on Friday and Saturday.

all I have to say is that if we beat a team like USC, then we most definitely have a chance against almost any team!!!!

Does anyone know the status of Diederichs? Good question. I haven't heard anything about his status. He must have played against USC though, no?
