Grading the Lions: Iowa St. 67 LMU 55

Again will be doing the best, and hopefully fairest, assessment of the team based on the information available. This is to be used more as a gauge to where the Lions are at and not intended to bash or be hurtful.

C.Counts- A. Provided badly needed long-range shooting. Gave us exactly the role he needs to be successful.

V. Teel- A-. Nice stat-sheet filler with 17 pts./13 boards. Slight points of for misses from beyond the arc. He is carrying the team thus far.

J. Dubois- B-/C+. Another decent all-around game from the frosh. Progressing nicely at this stage.

K. Young- D. Slight step up from his debut. Should be filling out the stat sheet in all categories. Continued improvement game-by-game will make him a stud.

A. Hamilton- D-. Definite drop off from decent debut. Still young and maturing, but needs to have less games like this.

L. Armstead- Incomplete. Virtually non-existent factor today.

T. Deiderichs- F. I hate this as Timmy was a stud as a freshman and I think the injury is a severe factor, but 2 points/0 rebounds is not acceptable from a starter.

M. Deric- No grade. My mom said if I can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

C. Kanne- No grade. Chris Kanne is a hard worker.

B. Sweezy- APB/MIA

Offense: D-. Again 55 points won't beat more than the Tention-line of opponents. Complete Houdini act in 2nd half is disconcerting.

Defense: D. Decent job rebounding and 3-point defense was at least marginally improved. The horrific offense did the defensive end no favors.

Coach Bayno: F. Down three at half, Lion faithful dreaming of first big win. Then lay a complete egg coming out of the locker room. The onus falls on the coach with that.

Again, we are young and going through growing pains. The early second half collapse was ugly, but playing hard at the end to make at the final score respectable is something to hang out hat on and grow from.

It's fair. I am not too discouraged seeing that this team is so young and lumps are on the way. I don't expect lightyears of improvement when these first 3 games are just hours apart!

I kindly suggest no grading Bayno any more. He is doing the best he can with what we have at this time.

The guy is making over $400k for salary. As alumni, boosters, fans, and supporters of LMU, we have a right to express opinion on the coaches performance. In this game, there was a total collapse in the second half. Not saying I agree with the grades, but the coaching staff seemed not up to the task this weekend. The first game we never adjusted to the 3-pointer. 14 times 3-point baskets were made by UW-Milwaukee. 33 attempts and we never adjusted. Iowa St. shot 42% from the arch for the game....higher than we shot from the field.

I think Bayno is fairgame. Continue grading the guy. Recruiting is a A-. Coaching thus far - D.

I still have the faith and anything is possible. A victory on Friday would cure all and place Bayno and LMU on the map. The rebuilding year would definitely take a leap on Friday night. I have hope we will have a solid showing for our home opener.

As stated in the other thread, I am going to cease doing the grades and instead focus on cheering on the Lions, win or lose.

It is going to be a rough year if the first weekend is any indication, and I don't think anything positive will come out of beating down bad performances.
