This game reminded me of why I love watching college basketball.
GOOD- -The crowd. A new Gersten record (with an assist from the fire marshals). Even the alumns were standing the entire game, with minimal b*tching from the grey-hairs.
-Counts. I've said it before and I'll say it again: this guy is nails. The three he hit in Harangody's grill was probably the biggest shot LMU has seen in 18 months. He may be undersized for the two, but I like his leadership, and his penchant to hit big shots. He's our Sam Cassell, sans alien head. My only hope is that he picks up on the I-have-gigantic-testicles-and-now-I'm-swinging-them-around dance.
-Mentality. Much like negotiating a raise or picking up a co-ed at Patty Malloy's, perseverance is key. Even when it looked like ND was going to pull away, the team banded together for a key shot/stop. THAT, my friends, is what has me excited about this team.
Harangody-That man is a large mammal. 27 and 17? Good lord.
BAD- -Zebras. There was a point in the second half where it was 8 to 1 in fouls. I'd say more, but I don't want to draw the ire of the boards, and the government who monitors these boards.
-Marco Deric. The kid is trying hard, but bad shots, coupled with 6'1 Torii Jackson taking rebounds from him down the stretch makes me want to revoke his schollie from my mental LMU athletic dept.
-Antibiotics. I'm not saying that Coach Good wasn't worthy of his name last night, but I think Bayno could have helped calm the players down. Was there a shortage of penicillin or something?
UGLY- -The students chanting "overrated" at the end of the game. Of all the games I've attended (approx. 70 or so) I have never been embarassed for my school, until tonight. I was so disgusted, I left immediately. What an inane way to end a hard-fought game. The players on both teams deserved better.
You could argue that our program's four best players (Viney, Davis, Diedrichs, Teel) weren't a factor last night, and we still made a top-10 team squirm in their seats.
The future is bright for these lions.

GOOD-
CROWD- Wow. Gersten was packed. By far the most exciting game of my college career so far. Every student I saw was standing the whole game. They were and chanting and definitely into it. Alumni did a great job on the opposite side of the court right by the Notre Dame bench. The Irish were definitely rattled. New Gersten attendance record. If we can get a crowd close to this for our home games we are going to be TOUGH to beat on our court.
Ashley Hamilton- Played well for most of the game. Had some nice drives to the basket for a big man and played as good of defense as he could on Harangody.
Dubois- Played extremely composed for a Freshman. He is leading our team and doing a great job of it. I can't wait to see him develop as a player. He made some clutch shots too.
Sweezy- Actually played tough. I was very surprised. He was very active and he actually guarded Harangody on some plays.
Demeanor- Our guys wanted to win and battled the whole game. They definately fed off the energy in Gersten and played great. They stuck with a top 10 team without: 1. Our Leading Returning scorer-Diedrichs 2. Our other true post-Sutton 3. Our two 4* transfers-Viney and Davis 4. Our coach- Bayno. If we had any or all of those we had this game.
Bad
Refs- Disgustingly bad. They would call fouls before the contact just because they anticipated there would be a foul when Harongody had the ball. ROAR had about 10 Bullsh*t chants and a majority of them were warranted.
Bayno- Really hope he is ok. We have a game at Wagner coming up in Bayno's and Teel's home state of New York that we definitely have a chance to win. Chance go down with out these two guys. Wish Bayno a speedy recovery.
Ugly
Overrated Chant- I was so embarassed. I just kept looking around in disbelief. I think after the terrible season we had last year, the students were proud we were sticking with a top 10 team. After being so used to losing they were content with just that. Bayno will change the culture here once we start wining, and we won't have a student section just satisfied with a close game.
Vernon Teel- Real bummer that he got hurt so early in the game. I heard after the game from a cheerleader who was next the bench that it was just a broken pinkie toe. So hopefully it is nothing more serious, but she could have had no idea what she was talking about. Also I read that Teel did not start because he was kicked out of one of the practices this week :/.
Imagine if we were playing these guys this year.Think about who we were playing tonight. I think possible only Kevin Young or Jarred Dubois start next year. We have insane talent coming in. We will definitely upset some teams this year, but next year we will shine. Cannot wait till the next game.
Go Lions

It's a shame that LMU has struggled so much in the past. A lot of our fans are complete negative sarcastic whiney douchebags. This was the game of the century for our team and I could still over hear "lions fans" loudly b*tching about how bad our plays were or why we were standing around blah blah blah. It was embarrassing. I'd like to see one of those major d-bags out on the court showing the heart out team did. Yea we aren't elite but we did an amazing job considering the horses we have. The overrated chant was probably started by a few of them. It is cringe worthy but for some reason this is a very popular chant across the country. why? ?

Man I'm glad I wasn't there to hear the overrated chant...LMU crowds have a bed habit of acting prettty stupid at the end of hard-fought losses. Remember the students tossing garbage onto the floor after the Gonzaga game a few years ago when Morrison put in 44 on us? Or how about at that same game when that crazy dude in the young alumni section stepped down on the floor at flipped the middle finger to Gonzaga's players? We need to learn how to win and lose with some class...that's hard to teach, though.

What's so ill about an overrated chant ? They are overrated. They come in with a number 8 ranking and they can't beat a the 233rd, or whatever, ranked team by more than 11 points, that is without its head coach, most prolific scorer and last year's starting center. The chant is cliched and uncreative but accurate. Lambaste the students for their inability to mock creatively but not for accuracy. I'm more concerned about the creative aspect...still haven't heard a good chant since the Pepperdine strict alcohol code taunt which was something like "NO BOOZE ON CAMPUS!

Win with class, lose with class.
I guess it comes with age.
Props to Notre Dame for winning in a hostile environment.
Big props to the gentlemen who busted their ass on the court for the Lions.

The "OVERRATED" chat was a word to College Basketball coaches and the NCAA selection committee that Notre Dame IS COMPLETELY OVERRATED. Same is true for UCLA. Mike Brey was worried. It was getting very hot in Gersten for him. It would not have got that hot for Mike Brey if he was not sweating our Lions. If Notre Dame was #8 ranked, then our freshman Lions belong in the Top 50. We know that the aforementioned is not true. Notre Dame played terrible. But I put all the blame on Mike Brey. It was clearly obvious his players were not prepared for LMU. I doubt they even looked at two different tapes. That was a pathetic coaching effort by Mike. Charlie Weiss may be the next coaching causality at Notre Dame, but if Mike Brey continues what I saw on Friday night, Notre Dame alumni may be asking why they finished out of the Top 25 at the end of the season with the caliber of players they have on that bench. All answers will point to Mike Brey. FYI....A sleeping giant has arisen at LMU.

By far the UGLIEST: Teel's injury!
(followed closely by stupid chants - you can't mock a team that is beating you - period)

I agree with the above post...if you don't win, you can't say much. It's just silly. And I also agree that the injury is pretty ugly.
