Super news - we now have the size and strength we need inside to compete in the WCC. Max has worked his magic - great! Is he done? Or is Mitrell Clark still in the wings? For Sweezy perhaps?

Thanks ironlions - with you and waterboy we are way ahead of the Daily Breeze (or ESPN). It's nice to hear the inside scoop on what's happening. I like Sweezy's heart for the game so I am glad he is staying.

Watched the video again for the umpteenth time. Thanks ironlions. I notice something new every time. This kid will grow - his feet are large - you know how you can guage the size of a puppy from his paws - well this kid will be dynamite when he matures despite already having massive wingspan. He finishes with either hand under the basket. He knows how to use the glass like Teel. Defense is awesome. Court awareness and aggessiveness are terrific. This man may be the sleeper of the 2009 recruiting class for the entire WCC.

From Scout:
Alex Osborne, 6-6 SR C/PF Los Angeles (Calif.) Pacific Hills, has committed to Loyola Marymount, according to a source close the recruitment. Osborne is a big kid who is willing to bang and do the dirty work inside. He's got a decent offensive game inside fifteen feet and he plays with toughness.
Prior to reaching Osborne was hearing from SMU and a few other programs.
ESPN:
Alex Osborne pledges Lions Alex Osborne, a 6-7 post player out of Los Angeles/Pacific Hills, decided to continue his career at Loyola Marymount, reports ESPN.com Recruiting Coordinator Joel Francisco.
"He has a big, strong frame with long arms and good hands," Francisco said. "He doesn't have great lift but he knows how to play and can score in a variety of ways. He can finish with either hand on the block and he can step out and hit the jump shot at the elbow. Furthermore, he could be quite potent in a pick-and-pop offensive set within 15-feet of the basket.
"He's a tough competitor that isn't afraid to get his nose dirty in the paint area, but due to his lack of great lateral quickness he?ll probably have to guard a five in the WCC."
Expect Osborne's competitiveness to carry him at Loyola.
"Overall, Osborne is a solid prospect with a limited amount of upside," Francisco concluded. "However, due to his competitive nature and savvy for how the game should be played he should have a solid career in the WCC."
Alex is definitely note 6-6. He is more like 6-8. We are getting a hard working competivtive player. Give me a guy who is tough and willing to do the dirty work over a talented but lazy guy anyday.
I think he Alex will have a excellent career at LMU!
Go Lions Go Lions!

Great report ironlions - and I think the kid will get bigger as he grows into his large frame. So we have another tough inside player to help Garibay compete with the top teams in the WCC, which we have been missing since Knight graduated.

Just wondering what do you have against Sweezy? Ive been reading this for a while and you try to put the thought out there to get rid of him whenever you can. He does nothing but good things for the team. JD doesn't reach 30 without brad against Bakersfield. who do you think spent his whole time screening for our undersized guards to get open shots? Who played defense against Dior and had the body to not let him go where ever he wanted? Yeah he doesn't put up points but he hustles, screens, and puts himself out there every night. He has earned his 40k this year, as you have said that he and Sutton need to realize that its a gift before.

Glad you wrote that billyb. At first I was not a big fan of Sweezy simply because I knew he was an extreme liability on the offensive end. He is not going to score you ten points a game, shoots free throws like a jv high school player, and has not shot beyond the ark whatsoever. That being said, every legitimate team needs a Brad Sweezy type of player. Sweezy has busted his tail game in and game out more than any other player on the LIons current roster. He was assigned to guard the opposing teams best post man all year because Deric could not play d.... and he did it very well. For the simple sake of having Sweezy practicing against the rest of the players I would be happy to see him in a Lion's uniform next year. He gives his heart and soul to this program and should be commended for that, rather than given a farewell and be sent packing.

Actually I like Sweezy and have defended him in other postings. He gives 110% every minute on the floor and plays beyond his inherent talent level. So I am happy to keep him on the squad. He doesn't have any offense to speak of though and is not a great ball handler in open court. He was our main presence inside last year along with Armstead and had to handle bigger, more talented players on defense, which he did well.

Sweezy isn't going anywhere..Not as long as Max Good is coach. Sweezy needs to work on and master his offensive skills, but he is the tough hard-nosed fighter that will see 4 to 8 minutes a game and will be a game changer on many occasions. Good loves the kid. Under Westhead we had the Human Bruise, Tom Peabody...nationally known for tough-nosed play, a game changer when nothing else was working, only played 4-6 minutes a game. Brad will do the same thing for us the next 2 years. His scholarship is safe.
