This from ESPN Renardo Sidney rethinking USC commitment ESPNU 100 power forward Renardo Sidney is reportedly reconsidering his verbal commitment to USC, a confidential source told the L.A. Times. Sidney, who is originally from Mississippi, visited Mississippi State this weekend, the paper reports. Sources also state that he has passed his SAT and just needs the requisite grades in 16 core classes to be fully eligible. insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/tracker/school?schoolId=30&page=briefingroom&season=2009

Why did I post this article? I think because Sidney made a great media event of his choice of schools when he verbally commited to USC. But then he needed to pass the SAT to sign. Now he "passed" the SAT (whatever that means - score above 200) but is not sure about attending one of the finest private colleges in LA (LMU excepting) but rather would go to Mississippi State! I guess I was glad LMU does not have to even deal with such players - "one and done" types (assuming they get into shape and commit to their goals). Thank you Renardo for not considering LMU and thank you LMU for not even giving Sidney a second thought. I like the program we have and would not change it for all the alumni contributions in the world. I guess that is why I posted this. I am glad he did not commit by conference call last night - we don't want to lose Sweezy!

Sidney is gone and this is probably for the good for USC. Apparently there are some issues around his dad's contract with a shoe company (among possible others) that may be embarassing to the college of his choice. It would have been interesting to see how LMU played against him next season - I understand USC will be on the schedule at the Galen Center.
