Boise State 109 Concordia 89 Broncos High Powered Offense Too Much For Concordia in 109-89 Win Courtesy: Steven Olveda Release: 11/07/2009 BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State men’s basketball team wrapped up its exhibition season with another convincing 109-89 win over Concordia (Ore.). The Broncos dominated the post for most of the game with Ike Okoye leading all scorers with 21 points. Okoye narrowly missed his second consecutive double-double, grabbing nine boards in addition to his 21 points. Fellow big man, Kurt Cunningham, added 14 points, five rebounds and seven assists. Daequon Montreal added nine points as did Zach Moritz, who just missed a double-double with 10 rebounds. Moritz, Cunningham and Okoye combined to score 17 of the Broncos’ first 19 points. The Broncos used the dominating play of the posts to take a commanding 52-30 lead at halftime. Concordia kept the game close over the first nine minutes and took a 17-13 on a Drew Preuninger 3-pointer with 13:36 left in the half. The Broncos took over the game after that with a 15-0 run over the next four minutes to take a 28-17 lead. The Broncos went on to outscore Concordia 39-13 over the final 13 and a half minutes of the first half. The second half featured a high-paced shootout between the two teams as they traded baskets for most the half. Robert Arnold scored 15 points in the fast-paced offense often getting to the rim for a couple high-flying dunks. The Broncos open their regular season on Friday in Missoula, Mont. in a three-game tournament hosted by the University of Montana. Taco Bell Arena will not see the Broncos until Nov. 28 against North Texas. www.broncosports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=48526&SPID=4076&DB_OEM_ID=9900&ATCLID=204829666Okoye is the Broncos 6'9" 235 lb Senior forward who led the team. Cunningham is 6'9" 265 Senior PF. Montreal is 6'7" 240 lb Junior from Southern Idaho (why does that ring a bell?). These guys are big and talented inside - will give our young squad a real test. Arguably the toughest game for LMU in this 3 game tournament. By the way, 109 points is a lot of scoring! Even over a weak team!

Boise State is averaging 110 points per game in its two exhibition. Can we keep up with them?

A very challenging opponent to get the season under way. I know the really get up and down the court and return four starters. At least we have depth this year. We have our work cut out for us.
The coaches have players have been working their butts off in practice.

I remember how tough they were when they played here a couple of years ago. That was a great game. I'm sure they still play as hard nosed. Will our front line match up with their's? And can Tim stay out of foul trouble holding them out of the key? I think we will be able to run with almost anyone but it may end up with the Broncos testing our ability to score from the outside. We get all these answers and more this week. Sure wish the game was here.

Sullivanfieldfan - we will need all our big guys to contribute before this game is over. Tim needs to avoid silly fouls like he picked up in the Hope game. We do have some depth, but young players who are typically inclined to foul problems.

The official game release is out and lists the probable starters as JD, Teel, Viney, Young and TD. No major surprises, I guess.

I know this may not be a good reminder, but when we played Boise State at home, that was the game that our beloved Brandon "We're Not" Worthy ended his basketball career with his knee blow out!

Your are correct dedicated - I can see the play now, Worthy stole the ball and broke downcourt for a dunk but was fouled hard in the process. At the time, I thought the foul was intentional, perhaps in a rage after having been stripped of the ball by Worthy. After the injury, he tried to return to the game but his leg was collapsing under him on the court and he was done for the year. We did win that game in overtime 84-82. Worthy's loss cost us our season and our bid to take the WCC crown - I think we might have done it that year with a healthy Worthy. We actually went on to beat league leading Santa Clara at Santa Clara and Gonzaga, but fell short of the title. Alas!

It is not a big stretch to think that we would have won the WCC if Brandon Worthy hadn't gone down. *SIGH* Tragic.
We beat Boise again in Rodney's final season in the return at Taco Bell. Not quite payback but good enough.

Welcome back Zagsfan! I don't think tonight's game is available on TV but you can get the audio on the webcast. Try this link: www.live365.com/stations/kxlu1If you cannot find the game here, go thru the LMU Athletics Website: www.lmulions.com/sports/m-baskbl/sched/loyo-m-baskbl-sched.htmlClick on tonights game and a link to the audio webcast will appear on the right hand side of the page. This takes one to the first link I just posted. Good luck - you sometimes need it with the webcast. Often, the game doesn't show up in the playlist until it is underway. Of course its on local radio from the LMU station but it is low power and doesn't reach London! Or Long Beach for that matter.

Odds makers have posted the lines for tonight's game. I have found these to be pretty accurate indicators of the final score in last years games. However, I don't know how they do analyses when teams are composed of so many new players with no statistical data available from actual NCAA play.
Boise State over LMU by 11.5 points Montana over North Dakota by 12.5 points
Other WCC games:
USF over Cal Poly by 11 points Saint Mary's over New Mexico State by 10 Stanford over San Diego by 3 Pacific over Pepperdine by 7
Should be an interesting evening.
Odds appear in both the Daily Breeze and the LA Times. The Breeze has a brief article that reads like the latest posting from the LMU website.
