Down 62-60 with seven minutes to go. We have only given up 11 points in the last 11 minutes, but are missing too many free throws. At least the defense and rebounding seem to be better.
Also, we have only played seven players in the second half, with, so far, Young, Viney, and Dubois playing all 13 minutes.
C'mon Lions!

How do you travel on a 5-on-4 advantage? Ugh. Down 64-60. Less than six minutes. Each possession is CRUCIAL. Take care of the ball!

We need a leader to step up. Viney has not hit key shots in second half.

Three minutes to play. Down four. I like the fact Given and AO are both in there. AO has been in since about the 15-minute mark.

Down 68-62, 1:53 to play. We have only given up 30 this half, but we have only scored 20. Ugh, do we need Davis this badly?

irish, you are right, unless Viney touches the ball down the stretch, we can't score!

Johnson hits eight-for-eight down the stretch. That's what a senior can do for you. But that isn't where we lost the game. Why did we lose? We shot 50 percent from the field! Help me out to understand why we couldn't win.
Just heard Montana was 17-for-17 from the line. We were 15-of-22. Obviously that hurts, but is this why we lost? Were they just better? Their center that averaged 11 pts. and 9 rebs. didn't even play. Sigh!

Bummer game - we could have won with a few more baskets at critical times. Montana was obviously keying on Viney but he got his 22 anyway and most were tough shots. They especially clamped down late in the game and we did not have that second scorer step up to fill the void. At times, AO looked open or against a smaller man underneath but we never worked the ball to him. Maybe we don't have a play for this? Another learning experience for the young Lions - I liked the play of Given and Alex - AO was especially aggressive on loose balls and rebounds, often taking the ball from the other player. Need to work him more into the offense. I don't think he scored in the second half if I recall correctly. Given was everywhere and got his first double - he has a nose for the ball on every play - and he is a hustler. Kevin played well tonight. Irish, I was watching his defense and he does play defense and does so pretty well. I was watching for any lapses but I think these may happen when we switch players on a screen and Kevin's man moves to another player on defense. Drew was great again, rebounding, blocking shots, scoring - and our attack was more balanced except during crunch time. Teel - too many turnovers for me tonight. JD - shot not too bad but his man got around him several times for layups in the first half. Diederichs - not much to say here except he gave up two or three layups when ball was passed over his head to his man under the basket. I need to sleep on this one. Disappointing loss tonight for the team and fans.

Can we please get AO in the starting line up. Despite his big heart Timmy just isn't doing it. Given needs more pt , this guy is a warrior.

^ Thank you. Tim has been given his chance to show us his game and really he isn't performing. At all. Maybe the soph slump or still frazzled from injury but he's a liability.
AO and Given are bright spots. Game was a mess. Can't believe Pepperdine dropped to Cal Baptist. Hopefully we'll finally beat those guys this season.

Thanks Iron - we see eye-to-eye on this! ;D I would love for Tim D to be playing better ball but I'm just not seeing it. On the other hand, I see Alex as our "Wes Unseld" who was a 6'8" NBA center, mountain of a man (Kevin Love came from his mold) - who started for the Baltimore Bullets for a decade a while back. I think Alex still has room to grow, add muscle and definition and become a true force inside. Plus we haven't seen his jumper from the key yet - it is as good as Edgar's which is pretty good. And Given - no one wants to win more than this young man, you can see it in his attitude on the court - "Warrior" is a good description - fitting! Now if we could only get Hamilton to find his real game and role here we would have something really special.

More bright spots for the game: 1. We limited our fouling which has been a problem. Final count UM 17 fouls, LMU 13 fouls but 3 or 4 LMU fouls were deliberate fouls late in the game in our attempt to come back. 2. We held Johnson in check for most of the game - he finished with 22 points including 14 FTs - 8 from the last minutes of the game. He was harassed pretty well most of the game by our defense but you can only contain his talent so much.

Can Max pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease start playing Given and Alex more?? Not giving up on the season already, but there is no sense in playing older guys with inferior talent who are not getting the job done. Break the young kids loose, see what they can do. It can only help for the future which this team is based around. Everyone who wasn't wearing rose colored glasses at the beginning of the year knew the 2010-2011 season and 2011-2012 seasons were going to be the Lions year (we pray), so why not get the youngsters more ready for those years. They both have talent and work very hard while in the game. Thats something to be excited about Lions Fans. And remember, Quincy is redshirting and was rated an 88 in high school. He was supposedly a DEFENSIVE STOPPER.. something this team desperately needs. Edgar is obviously out for the year, but showed great potential while in there.
Everything will be alright. Lets just try to get everyone healthy so we can see what a full strength team can do.

“What the deuce!” So Max Good has a second job working for the State department. How else to explain the Reagan-era-Cuba-trade like embargo on three pointers during the last 2-minutes, when trailing by 6 and in desperate need of VINEY 3-point attempt that doesn’t come until the clock is blinking 27-seconds, the game already decided and the refugee’s fleeing the vicinity.
