The Womens Soccer Team has posted their 2011 soccer schedule. www.lmulions.com/sports/w-soccer/sched/loyo-w-soccer-sched.htmlFans should be pleased with the 12 home games this year on Sullivan Field. The Lions open mid August with a trip to Austin to face the Longhorns of Texas and then Texas State. I would start hydrating now. I'm sure it will be beyond hot. SMU might be the smartest of the three Texas schools scheduling the Lions this year, they are coming to California for their match. Other interesting games this year will be against Rutgers and the visit from UCLA. BYU joins the conference this year and the Lions will travel to Utah for that match up. The Lions will have the home field advantage this year against perennial conference leaders Portland, Santa Clara and the Peppers

USA 3 France 1
USA took advantage and finished their chances. Coupled with a strong defense it gets them to the final. France was a challenge and controlled more of the play but couldn't break through. Another great job by the USA.
Sweden has already beat the US and Japan got by the favored Germans so either opponent will be a real test in the final.

Japan Sunday morning at 11 Pacific. WWC Final! Japan will be tough. They can control the ball and have beaten both Sweden and the Germans. The US has the ability to score on any chance, has heart and the top keeper. It should be a great game.

Japan packed it in and survived the US attack and came back twice from being a goal down. I thought we had it when the US went up 2-1 but they came back again. Penalty kicks just didn't happen for the US. Shows again what can happen with a strong defense. Tough loss for the US women.
Now it's time to get fired up for the coming LMU soccer seasons.

Only a couple days until the season starts in Texas! Our women don't show up in the preseason polls, the girls will have to make themselves known with some wins to get recognized. Top Drawer has UCLA as number one. Portland BYU and Santa Clara show up in most of the polls so far with the Pilots as high as 8th. Even USD rec'd some votes. Looking forward to another exciting season, it should be fun. The women are ready to break out!

www.dailybreeze.com/ci_18715007Lion women make it to front of the Daily Breeze sports page with article for season kick off today. Nice article with three photos, Rachel Fell, Tawni Martino and Brittany Jagger. Good luck to Lions in Texas as they open season this afternoon.

Halftime in Texas finds LMU down 1-0. Texas scored on a corner kick. Pyka was subbed out at 22 mins by freshman Medved, unk reason for now. Linda Bakker also got a start for LMU. The Texas wbsite looks like it has a streaming video so we can watch second half. Temp at gametime was a cool 101F.

LMU steals one from Texas with strong defense, calm demeanor, patience and quality play taking advantage of limited number of chances, 3-1.
Watching only the second half video first impression was Texas was in control. Texas had two shots carom off the woodwork that might have put the game out of reach. They had control of the ball most of the time and LMU was limited to clearances and a defensive shell.
With 20 minutes left, the game shifted to midfield and even the Texas color commentator gave LMU credit for finally getting out of the defensive third for the first time.
Martino took advantage as Texas tried to trap LMU offside as they moved up on an LMU free kick. She stayed onside and beat their keeper to the ball tapping home the tying goal.
Texas started to feel the pressure and when LMU played a long ball into the penalty area Texas took Sanford down for a penalty kick. Sanford quickly converted even though the keeper got a hand on the kick. LMU up 2-1. The penalty foul was off screen and they didn't show a replay.
With seven minutes left Texas played with a bit of desperation pushing forward. Pyka took advantage and put another one in the net with 2 mins left. LIONS WIN 3-1!
Pennington made a nice save in the last minute on a shot to the near post from about 10 yards. Pennington entered the game after Jagger was injured in the first half colliding with the post. Unknown the extent of her injury, hopefully it's not serious.
Stats a bit lopsided shots TX 16 LMU 5, corners 13-2.
Rachel Fell and Pyka had big games for LMU. Martino's play against the trap was really smart. Time of possession must have been greatly in favor of Texas.
Great win and a great start for LMU!

The Daily Breeze had the Lions in the paper again today, reporting their victory 3-1. They got the score right so we'll so we'll forgive them. They gave the credit for two of the goals scored to keeper Brittany Jagger after she had left the game with injury. Sanford and Pyka and the Lions are happy with the win and will find humor in that. Hopefully Jagger has recovered enough to also laugh.

Tommorrow's game is at 5, it will be a little warmer and stay hot longer. TX State had a bit of offense, beating their opponent 6-0. LMU's defense should be a little tougher.

Lions win second time out 1-0 over TX State. And found a new scoring threat in freshman Medved. The Lion defense shutout a bobcat team that had scored 6 goals Friday. That's the Lion style defend and score a goal and defend again. Great start for the Lions! And Jagger returned to the lineup in goal. Glad to hear she is okay.
