Didn't see the match, it must have been anxiety packed for the Lion fans on the road. The Lions like to play that style, and are comfortable with their defense standing up strong against any opponent when they have a lead.
Winning 1-0 with only one shot on goal and being outshot 19-3 will surely build confidence in your defense. The Lions have a defense that's for sure. SMU visits Sunday after dropping a game 1-0 to UCLA. Another game another test for the now 5-1-1 Lions.
The WCC women are all tough this season! The Peps won again, San Diego beat Texas, Sta Clara got a tie with Irvine and Portland tied Washington.
I can see a problem for the NCAA developing. The top five WCC Womens teams are a combined 23-4-6 and that's not including Portland at 2-3-1 who are still in the top 25.

Lion women up 1-0 after halftime. Sanford scored on rebound after missed penalty kick.

Lions win another one 1-0. Their defense made the one goal at the 9 minute mark stand up. SMU outshot the Lions 14-9 but that's not the stat that matters most. Lions improve to 6-1-1. SMU fals to 3-4. Go Lions!

In other WCC action Portland won in OT 2-1 over #17 Oregon State, Sta Clara tied ND and Pep tied LSU. Both scores 1-1. All big games for the WCC.

It should be a barn-burner today when LMU hosts UCLA at 1 pm. Both teams have scored 13 goals while yielding only 3. The Lions have never beaten the Bruins - perhaps today?

The Lions host Northridge today at 4pm. The Lions hope to return to the winners circle after a tough match against the Bruins last week. Go Lions!

The Lions dropped their second in a row to Northridge 3-0. The Matadors scored the opening goal on a hard shot to the back post from outside the box. The Lions were unable to recover from that first goal and eventually gave up two more. The Lions never seemed to be crisp or match the intensity of the Matadors in the first half. The Lions came out strong in the second half but Northridge thwarted their efforts and a couple of fortunate bounces only increased their lead. The Lions have a week to get back on track before UNLV.

The women start the weekend at Saint Marys and need some points on the road before facing the #5 undefeated Peppers at home Sunday on Sullivan Field. It should be a great match! Go Lions!

The Peppers dropped their playoff opener to Long Beach 1-0. I thought they would go much further. Santa Clara lost in PKs to Cal. That leaves Portland and San Diego to carry the WCC banner. Portland will face Florida State ranked as high as fifth but Portland has already got by them once this year already in the season opener.

USD has a tough one in UCLA Friday in Westwood. UCLA gets the home field advantage but the Toreros may do it. I wish them luck.

The Toreros got by the bruins on PKs but were stopped by LB state yesterday 1-0. That ends it for WCC fans this year as Portland got bounced by Florida State in their rematch.

I think we have to start rooting for Long Beach. The niners just need a win over Duke for a trip to the final four. I think they have a good chance.
