I can't argue with a high energy shut down perimeter defender who isn't afraid of hard work. Based on what I have read, a nice pick up. Welcome Jeffery!

One article I read, said Oregon and Washington State were interested in him but that dates back to his junior year.

You know who else was a local kid, athletic, whose first and best known quality was his defense? A kid who also was underrated and was close to comitting to LMU before getting a last minute offer from UCLA. His name was Russell Westbrook.

Other offers were nau and ucdavis - I think its a bit early to compare him to Westbrook

Not comparing at all. But who was "Russell Westbrook" before he became Russell Westbrook?

Not comparing at all. But who was "Russell Westbrook" before he became Russell Westbrook? What? Westbrook was not on the scene at first because he was not athletic. He was a little out shape. By senior year he was a top recruit.

Jeffrey McClendon SG 6’2” 185 Eastside High School, Palmdale, CA ESPN Scout’s Grade 59 1-star
ESPN Analyst Updated 12/18/2014
Strengths: McClendon is known for his relentless energy and the different ways he can impact a game. Defensively, he smothers opponents with his strength, active hands, and assertiveness. Offensively, he can attack in the open court and use his strength and athleticism to explode to the rim. His chiseled frame allows him to finish through contact and he wears down opponents due to his attacking nature. In addition, he exhibited a much-improved jump shot as he he knocked in several shots out to 19-feet.
Weaknesses: McClendon needs to continue to smoothen out his jump shot--both off the catch as well as off the dribble. In addition, his mid-range skills (ball handling against pressure) and triple threat game (1st step, jab step, pump fake) need polishing as well.
Bottom Line: There are not too many prospects on the west coast that have the competitive nature, athleticism, and willingness to get better than McClendon.
Travel Team: Pangos Elite U16
Other schools on interest list: Nebraska, Pepperdine, Portland, USF, UAB, UC Riverside
Looks like a good catch.

Jeffrey can take a charge:
training – here’s a tireless worker! (almost 15 minutes long)
2015 Quartz Hill – some offense and “D”

^ love this. I have seen where he has been described as "one of best defenders on West Coast". With that billing and this work ethic above, the offense can come. I think this is a great get for the Lions and cant wait to see his progress over the years. Mixed with Tutu and Shamar Johnson, and i am liking how this class looks so far. Would LOVE to add Brandon Brown. You do that, itll give Munis a little time to mature as he is still pretty young. Haney is going to be a baller. Shamar, Jacko inside give us a little nastiness.

Haney scored 3 points a game, Johnson who was bigger than competition in JC barely scores and at 6-6 will be an undersized back up center. MCClendon can't shoot. I get Dunlap wants to play defense and dreams of a team like Virgina. However this team will be offensively challenged even more with Evan gone. And with Gonzaga BYU and Sr. Mary's who easily break the zone, it's not a winning style in the WCC. That's if the defense he can get them to play can outweigh the poor offense.
Second, nice to load up on Jucos but how does this fall into a five year plan when he has one freshman? None of those guys will make any long term impact. Maybe one useful year. Kind of like USF's rotating door with Rex Walters. He needs to teach Freshman. Obviously he's not good at developing players but he needs to try.

Aren't Tutu and McClendon freshmen, and since Jacko did not play last season won't he only be a sophomore? Haney is only going to be a sophomore as well.

C'mon guys. The bias, hypocrisy and lack of objectivity on this board in the last few days is ridiculous. As Senator Moynihan famously said: Everybody is entitled to their opinion but not their own facts. The Lions have been a terrible team for years. The Lions have finished last or next to last for each of the last three years. Ireland, Payne and Levin were nice players (I liked them all) but they didn't lead the Lions ANYWHERE.
You don't have to like Dunlap; but goodness gracious let him succeed or fail on his own merit and with a legitimate time and opportunity to do so. Concluding that players I doubt anyone has actually seen play, with the possible exception of McClendon, are and will be failures is nothing but an example of hubris.
Let's actually see what happens. Anything else is an exercise in self aggrandizement.
