Aren't Tutu and McClendon freshmen, and since Jacko did not play last season won't he only be a sophomore? Haney is only going to be a sophomore as well. I stand corrected with McClendon as a a high school senior, but Jacko will be a junior. Tutu and McClendon are the only true freshman this far. This far Hayes, jacko, Johnson have two years of eligibility while Humphries and Mornar have one. Haney, Herman, Spiers have three. The point here is that Dunlap was meant to bring us to the tourney by slow ascension. His goal this year was for 8th place etc. five of the guys on the roster will be gone after year 3 of Dunlap, four of which are his new recruits . This is presumably after we have worked our way up the conference ladder to 5th or 6th place. That's why it's hard to get excited over the recruiting. It's hard to see the long term plan that we are supposed to remain patient for. I am still hoping for some solid incoming freshman to help with Tutu. I am remaining optimistic that Dunlap is bringing in some high level recruits from Europe that aren't broken like Herman.

It's gotten rather obvious that CMD felt the only way he could succeed was by completely tearing down whatever remnants of a program we had and starting completely over. Kinda like a builder who clear cuts a piece of property before building anew. Even if there are some pretty trees on the property, the builder considers them "in his way."
Personally, I think there were some "trees" worth saving, but CMD (as we would all agree) thinks a little differently. Okay, maybe a lot differently. I think I could have worked with Evan's obvious talents and would have made an effort to value his contributions. CMD wasn't going down that path. For good or bad, that's his approach. He has definitely stepped on toes. I personally don't like some of the aspersions he has cast regarding past academics and citizenship, but it's obvious he wants all ties to the past cut
I personally think he has wasted some opportunities by his misuse of a few players (esp Evan) but CMD isn't exactly flexible. He's not going to adjust his style to fit a player or anything else for that matter. It's too bad he made those disparaging remarks regarding the team as a whole and Evan in particular. It wasn't a classy move for sure.
It's going to be interesting to see who else he recruits. By my accounting he still has several spots to fill. He certainly has an opportunity to build HIS team virtually from scratch. I give his first recruiting class some low grades. I hope he does better this year with another year to work with. There's no way we can grade the new guys yet. If (and that's a real big if in my mind), this year's class succeeds, they do have time to help CMD build a quality program. Even a year or two is time to start the rebuilding process.
Let's see what happens next season. If there's still no progress then, there will be time for some legitimate concern.

By my calculations, here’s where our roster stands right now:
Scholarship players
Guards: (4) Matt Hayes (JR) Munis Tutu (FR) Brandon Brown (JR) Jeffrey McClendon (FR)
Forwards: (5) David Humphries (SR) Marin Mornar (SR) Adam Jocko (SO) Petr Herman (SO) Shamar Johnson (FR)
Wings (G/F): (2) Joshua Spiers (SO) Steven Haney (SO)
Walk-ons:
Casey Norris – G Connor Jean – G Tyler Batiste – G Sherman Vernon – F
Eleven scholarship players so we have 2 openings to fill.
Personally, would like to see another strong post player added to the roster, even one who needs a year to mature. I could see Shamar filling in at “center” with his bulk until we get a true ace there. Herman might develop but he is an unknown at this point in time.
Is my math right?
By the way, I could have included Humphries in the Wing category, i.e., getting time at guard in a three guard lineup.

Verbal commits shows Sherman Vernon as a scholarship player (red shirted last season). Is this accurate or is he a walk on? If scholarship, we have only one slot to fill.

Vernon is a walk on. We have two open schollies.
I think we need another scoring/slashing wing and a big man taller 6'10-7'1 that Dunlap can try and develop.

I like our signing so far. I agree with loyalion. For our last 2 scholarships we need to focus on 6"10 big men that can protect the paint and score inside. Right now Mornar is our only option with Herman as a far away backup unless he develops a lot over the summer.

Lions90045 per all your previous links, jacko and Johnson will be juniors with two years of eligibility. They won't be freshman or sophomores

Slb - my error Johnson will be a Junior with two years eligibility left Jocko will be in his second year of college ball and will have three years remaining so I call him a sophomore regardless of his academic standing That's what I'm trying to figure out... "Sophomore Adom Jacko of Chaffey College has decided his next step will be Division I Loyola Marymount. Jacko, a 6-foot-8 power forward, also visited Cal State Fullerton and was talking to others including Gonzaga, Oregon and St. John’s but ultimately decided the Lions were the best fit. “I really liked the location,” he said. “I big part of it was also that I wanted to stay close to home because I’m really close to my family.” The Alta Loma High School product was part of back-to-back Panther teams that advanced to the state semifinals. Chaffey made it all the way to the title game his freshman year. Last year as a sophomore had a much larger role, averaging a team-high 13.6 points and 6.7 rebounds which earned him first team All-State and Foothill Conference honors. He was most valuable player in two regular season tournaments as well as an all-tournament selection in two others. The Panthers made it to the semifinal before being eliminated by Santa Rosa. Jacko is still taking classes at Chaffey and will enroll at LMU for the 2015-2016 school year." I believe Hayes, Jacko, Brown and Johnson all have 2 years to play. I am interested in Dunlap's emphasis on Juco's to fill out the roster. It's a much different strategy than we've had going for at least the 11 years that I've been following. It seems very similar to what Rex Walters is doing. Since both have some NBA experience I wonder if they are just more comfortable dealing with older kids than 18 year old freshman? Is he looking for guys that have physically developed a bit more? Perhaps he sees them as more able to deal with the emotional and physical rigors of his practices?

I love the idea of JUCO recruiting. Not many coaches at LMU have done this in the past 20 years. Lets try something new. You bring in top high school players by developing a winning program. If that means winning right now with Juco's so be it. THey are matured, ready to play physically, and are older players. Winning games will open the eyes of high school talent. Love the mix of Juco's and freshman that he has brought in so far.
Bring in 1 more big, and one more shooter or slasher and i think we are solid. Would LOVE it if a graduate transfer gave us a chance. Maybe a poor mans Byron Wesley?

I completely agree loyal. Jucos can come in and fill holes immediately and provide stability for younger players to develop. Your thoughtful and informed posts are a breath of fresh air on this site especially after pissing match that went on last week.

Another big would be great, and call me crazy but I just have this feeling Herman comes back a different player next year, much improved, kind of like Mornar this year compared to last...

90045, I was the one who mistakenly thought Jocko was going to be a sophomore. SLB is correct, he will be a junior. In addition to seeing that he won three dunk contests in high school (the Kevin Young comparisons may be valid), I did some research regarding his Chaffey CC stats...it is encouraging to see how much he improved. 2012-13, Freshman: 4.5 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 58% FG, 55% FT 2013-24, Sophomore: 13.6 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 61% FG, 69% FT I really like the fact his free throw shooting improved. That's hopefully a good sign that he is a hard worker. As a sophomore, he had four 20-point games and five 10-rebound games. For those inclined, his stats for each season are in the links below. As you can see in the Game Log, he was playing his best ball in February of his sophomore year.
