CMD is clearly targeting athletic players, curious to see if this will ever result in us playing at a faster tempo (a reminder that last year our tempo was 347/353, or in other words, we played extremely slow). But this slow tempo did help us out on defense quite a bit, as it is was tough to score in the half court against us last year...

Really, we lacked scorers last year. This year’s crop looks a lot better in that department as well. This might speed up the pace on offense?

I’m a Dunlap critic but I’m going to give him his props in the fact that he’s switched up his recruiting strategy lately. He’s gone after athletic players and will rely on his ability to coach them up to do the things he wants them to do. It would be a huge get to have a solid PG running the show for 3 1/2 seasons than 2 ,as we’ve been doing with the transfers. It’s up to him now to coach up his PG skills.
I read up on him in the Memphis paper from ‘18 and it says that he could be a 6-2 SG in college but that he sees his future as PG so that one day he can play professionally. So we know he has bounce and can get up a shot. He will need to learn how to distribute although to be fair to Dunlap, the PGs have been eating first for a few years now.
Considering it was the last week of h.s summer around most parts I’m going to guess he needed to get his academics squared away to get eligible for our wonderful institution this fall. Welcome aboard!

Thanks slb for the compliments of Dunlap. I’ll list you now as a possible convert. I share your enthusiasm about our athleticism!

Is that Deovanta Williams going to be able to play this season?
We definitely got some athleticism.
Bummed we are losing our big man (Markusson).
Looks like we will try to play more uptempo "small ball" as lmu2015 eluded to us being ranked very low in that category last season.

I have not heard of Mattias Markusson leaving? He should be a senior this upcoming year, do you have an update?

Typical of the past 29 years… Good news one day, bad news the next.
My self pity aside, I truly wish Mattias all the best. He’s been an absolute joy to watch. His improvement each of the last few years has been by leaps and bounds. Here’s hoping everything is OK.

Best wishes for Matthias- he became one of the best centers in the WCC and we will surely miss him. LMU seems snake bit. We get guys who can really play and then something happens- Larry Davis Achilles injury, Jacko turns pro, now Matthias. It would be nice if he finds a way to play his 4th season with LMU , if not now in the following year. His absence changes the whole team dynamic.

cs17 or anyone - if Williams plays at Tennessee Prep this year (as LionsRoar states), do we still have a scolly available for this season?

Will Mattias come back next season? I thought he would be a junior this year?

lions, according to thxforleavin Williams is set to enroll this August. So this means he would be playing this year.
As far as Mattias, it is a big loss. But if he is redshirting and sticks around for 2021...that could actually work in the program's favor. Consider that you would probably have Williams starting at PG with experience, with Douglas as a JR, Scott as a SR, Dortch as a SR, Dos Anjos as a seasoned SO, Zivanovic as a SO and big Matty at C. Could be the year we make a run at top 3.
Big Ifs though

As for Matthias, if he misses this year but plans to come back in 2020, his scholarship would be tied up. But if his career at LMU is over (I have no info on his problem back home), then we would have another slot to fill in the team. I’m assuming all would prefer to see him again so our roster for next season is complete.

Mattias has been home for the past several months tending to his dying mother.
