C’mon Ray, I am sure Coach Stan loves your confidence, too!

Its a shame Ray couldn't visit campus at this time - it might be a decision swing factor to see the setting of LMU. And the weather. Wonder what games St Johns is playing with their scholarships?

Rumor on Twitter is that “Ray Salnave to St Johns is a done deal, according to one trusted source.”

I saw that as well- don’t believe everything you read online. At one point I tweeted Damon Stoudamire was the new LMU coach- oops.

Great to be down to the final 2. Lack of Scholarships definitely helped us. Hopefully, LMU comes out on top!

Does anyone know the draw for DePaul? I got St Johns. It’s in his home turf. Does he have a connection to DePaul ?

DePaul is the Largest Catholic University in the US located in Chicago. I worried that Salnave was an “East Coast” type of guy - high school in NYC, Monmouth Univ in Jersey, St Johns back in NYC. Perhaps his buddies are there and family so a move to LA would be a big change especially without a campus visit. Then again, Chicago is not NYC just has worse weather. My hopes are up now! Not sure about the DePaul coaches

Depaul is a great school academically and the location in Lincoln Park area of Chicago is outstanding. Large Catholic University.
Depaul went 3-15 in conference last year. 10th in the Big East. Last place. They couldn't compete in this league effectively, even with some of the best transfer recruits they have had in years.
Depaul's best years were in 1978 and 1979. They had some solid teams in 84, 86, & 87 too. In other words, their glory days are even older than ours. They play in a new facility...but they built it about 30 minutes from campus (traffic in Chicago is bad too). This means student support and attendance for basketball has been challenging.
I always root for DePaul as an excellent Catholic University in the midwest. But....it needs far more of a basketball turn around than LMU does. Salnave would also have to beat out some good players at the guard position to start too. Charlie Moore has secured the PG position. They have some talent competing for guard spots with Javon Freeman Liberty and Courvoiseir McCauly. Not sure the current eligibility on those guys.
SALNAVE should pick LMU. Best campus. Best weather. Probably will start....and play on a team that will compete and win more games in the WCC. It is no fun being down by 20 points many games like he will experience at DePaul in the Big East. Providence beat them 93 - 55. It is painful to watch.
More fun to play for Stan Johnson....will be a more up tempo basketball, that will compete.
Go LMU.

Thanks Whelan. Your post was great and deserved to be appear twice in the this thread. C'mon Ray! You are the missing piece for what is shaping up to be an excellent LMU squad that will make noise in the WCC. Coach Johnson has your best interest at heart.
