Coach Stan is putting up a good fight to keep him...that is some tough competition.

Nice to see he is still considering staying. That’s the experienced 7-footer I was thinking of. Maybe Haarms from Purdue will commit to Louisville. Keep up the good work Coach Johnson. Actually keeping Mattais would be quite a coup.

None of our guys who entered the portal have landed anywhere yet. If Coach Johnson can bring both Bell and Markusson back, that would be a coup. How does it feel to be on the top 4 of Mattais’s list along with Louisville?

As Coach SJ said in his Lionsroar interview, people perk up when he says he’s calling from LMU. I don’t think the last string of head coaches appreciated the brand name. They seldom approached top talent because (I believe) they figured they were out-classed basketball-wise. Coach SJ has the right approach. It’s not just a bb team. There is a whole university to sell. Nothing counts til the team is on the floor against some opponents, but I’m impressed with Coach’s first steps.

People still ask me if LMU is that basketball school when I tell them where I went. You might not be able to buy LMU apparel at the Howard Hughes Center, but people remember the name, from the team itself and from the 30 for 30 (thanks to Bill Simmons for reinvigorating public interest in our team).

the transfer wire has changed so much that I don't quite get it.
For example, someone like Harkless is a low-major guy who wants out and teams want him, even though he couldn't dominate his lower-end competition (big west not even as good as WCC or other mid majors). Another guy on the team might get drafted. That would make me weary.
It used to be that you'd get excited for a transfer from a major program who couldnt beat out the future pros or the college studs so they are looking to drop down a level to mid majors where they are among the league's best against slightly less competition. Kind of like how Gonzaga and Saint Mary's do it.

Harkless went to school at Etiwanda before CSUN. Isn't Elton Mashack's kid also at Etiwanda right now? Stan the Man is clearly playing chess while the other coach's are playing checkers, lol.

Etiwanda has a legendary HS coach (Kleckner) who's players are ready to play at the next level. Great teacher of man-to-man defense.
