4/6/2020 - Loyola Marymount 2019 PG Deovaunta Williams (6-1, 160, 2★) will be transferring. Not surprising- probably sees the writing on the wall from the number of guards we are recruiting. He was the other guy I was referring to previously that I was pretty sure was leaving. Also, Pacific got a top 20 Juco recruit named Marial Mading. 6'11 with a nice little inside/outside game from what I could see. Excellent pickup for Stoudamire and the Tigers. Let's hope for some Lion news soon!

Zivanovich will be the next to depart (IMHO).

Gonzaga just picked up Senior PG Aaron Cook from Southern Illinois. We still need a center ready to play this season.

Does the board feel like Markusson can run in the style that Coach might implement? Coach has said he wants to go faster and put opponents on their heels. Can Markusson play that style from what we have seen? I think he might be able to do it. I also think Coach might defer to the talent at hand at first so it might not be as big of an issue in year one.

I think you are right that year 1 will be a transition year as far as implementing CSJ's (is that a thing yet?) attacking style. I definitely think Markusson can play a faster style and it would be good for his development for his pro career to do so. Right now, we have no size without him. I'd love to see him come back.

I don't think we have a center who would particularly thrive offensively in an uptempo format, because none of our guys are athletic finishers or will knock down open threes on the secondary break. However, Bell gets a lot of steals, which could facilitate easy points, and I think he'd be fine defensively in an uptempo system. Markusson might struggle on both ends, though, unless he can get into better shape.

I think Markusson moves exceptionally well for a man his size.
In 2018-19, Markusson was 11th in the conference in defensive win share and 16th in offensive win share. I am confident Coach Stan would figure out how to maximize his strengths.

Don’t underestimate our 7 footer Lazar Nekic He has good hands and defends well I just thought his body needs time to mature Also he may qualify for a “redshirt” for last season so might have 4 years left but I’m not knowledgable enough in “redshirt” rules.

It is going to be 2-3 seasons before we can see the coach run his system. Markusson probably isn't an ideal fit, but he is probably the best Center we can get on our roster this year and therefor should keep him. But, given Purdue just lost their big man, I would love to see Markusson go to Purdue, I think Big 10 basketball and their style would be perfect for him. We are definitely going to be undersized again this year, but I am just excited to see who else CSJ can bring in. It is so hard to recruit as a new coach at this time, yet he already pulled in Mayoum 2, if he can land a couple more like that we may not have this down year I am expecting. I would still be very impressed if he could pull a .500 record in league year 1, but if he gets Eli, Douglas, and Markusson all to stay; Leaupepe continues to develop; we get another 1 or 2 impact freshman/transfers; and everyone else on the team continues to develop (need Quintana to progress), it may happen...

Ralph Sampson before the injuries? He's a stud player, but uptempo doesn't play to his strengths.
