Found it interesting in that interview that he says Johnson has told him he's being recruited as a point guard. Watched some video of Bosco vs. Bishop O'Dowd and he was def Bosco's point guard. He can really see the whole floor as a ball handler at that size. 2021 class is going to be huge. Glad to see an early commit here, from a powerhouse southern cal catholic program as well.

That is a pretty good list of schools showing interest, especially prior to their junior year. More videos I watch and the more he looks like a great shooter and passer. Didn't see tons of athleticism, but again I am seeing very limited footage. Looks like he played well in a game vs Mater Dei where he matched up vs Askew, a top 30 player in the country who is off to Kentucky. Someone who is this comfortable with the ball in their hands, at this size, who can shoot and pass could really thrive in an up tempo system; can't wait to see him in an LMU uniform for hopefully 3-4 years.

Nice to see 2 2021 LA players commit so early in the process. Both players are along the type of players Stan is looking for. The future looks bright!

Looks like he was second team all CIF for Juniors and Co-MVP of his league. Looking through his twitter it is obvious he has incredibly work ethic and loves the game. Stan is on fire...

For reference and context Birmingham competes in the Open Division of LA City (highest of LA City section). This year they lost in the semis to Fairfax. (Fairfax had Dinwiddie (little brother) going to SDSU, and Justyn Hunter in the backcourt who I hear is a recruit too. ) Pretty good for a couple of underclassmen I'd say to get that far in a competitive division.
I love how Stan is going after the local products. So far all 3 are guys that are still maybe growing, they have some defined skills and they look like they're going to be molded by Stan to be better overall. He wants guys that are going to work, I think he's pretty clear about that, so it is interesting that he recruited teammates and I'd imagine, friends, that mind up competing against each other for the same position or playing time. That's interesting to me.
But recruiting locally is something that you gotta do. I mean the local So Cal talent pool is due for another cyclical rise and I think it is happening now. This is great strategy. Even though he's not totally familiar with all of So cal yet, getting some guys from St. John Bosco (power private program) to Birmingham (power city program) shows respect to the rival factions of basketball and spreads the wealth. Plus, if you want to make LMU the city's college, then grab some of its players. I have been interested in LMU's rebranding efforts to not just be a small private jesuit college on the bluff, but to be a college dedicating itself to the city of Los Angeles. I guess you could say USC and UCLA are "national" universities, so LMU is trying to position itself as the Los Angeles university. So you build credibility in athletics by being that sports program that finds those diamonds in the rough in a big region and making them stars.
Plus if you want to fill up the gym, get guys from the local area to be on the team, that's at least 30-40 friends and family every game

Nice recognition that things are happening here. Do other recruits read these sites? If not, OK - I guess they have their own networks which are working for LMU right now.

Love our three signees, but I do find it interesting, almost amusing, that none of those three players were listed as LMU prospects on VerbalCommitments.com.
That said, I still look at it, and I noticed that Mashack has been offered by Texas and Louisville and Arizona, among others. And while his father played for the Lions, his brother played football at the U of A. Still hoping it pans out!

I assume we will get Corey Cofield if we want him too, given that we have signed two of his teammates and that we are his only offer... That being said, if we are signing 3 players from one team, they better be an elite team next year haha. If we sign their entire starting back court and they aren't a dominant high school team I would honestly be a bit concerned.

I'm wondering, if we have 2 scholarships left for 2021 recruits, that's assuming we fill the PG spot with a senior transfer who would finish their eligibility after the 2020-21 season, would the two spots be left for Jahmai Mashack and DaRon Holmes II? Those are the highest rated recruits left on the board for us, but we'd be missing out on a Center to replace MM. Any thoughts on who you'd want to round out the '21 class?

Mashack and Holmes. Both are top 80 players. Holmes would be the highest rated recruit ever to come to LMU. Mashack would be maybe 3rd behind Viney?

It’s obviously early, but still nice to see 247 sports give the 2021 class a #8 ranking.
