None of us KNOW how good the team will be this coming year. Coach is touting the team, but he’s a positive guy with a “go get em” attitude. But I think he’s smart enough to not over-tout his team. It’s going to be interesting. Last year they were 13-9 with 4 losses by 5 points or less. That was playing short handed (esp at the end) and without a quality PG. if they had been just a little bit better, they could’ve easily been 17-5. With a full season that translates to 21 or 22 wins. This year’s team gains a high quality seasoned PG, some experienced depth, and several highly touted freshmen. While they’re going to miss Markusson’s size, 9+ points a game, and 6 rebounds; they were actually a better team when he wasn’t on the floor. This year’s team has a lot more speed, a year of playing together, and a proven PG who has experience playing with our best player. If even a couple of the new players can shoot straight, this team could be a fair amount better than last years team. “A far amount better” than 21-22 wins equals a pretty decent shot at a tournament bid. But they’re going to need some quality wins. The one thing I do KNOW is that we’re all anxious to see some action! We also won 6 games by 5 points or less, making our record 6-4 in those games. Cameron Shelton will be the key for us, if he can be an all-WCC performer then I think we have a shot. Also really excited to see our depth at wing (Alipev, Douglas, Marble, Harris, and Mayoum) as well Alex Merkviladze, and our freshman. I personally think our freshman will have a tough time cracking the rotation this year, but only because I think we have 8 or 9 solid players in front of them. I think this will be our rotation: Starting 5: Shelton, Quintana, Douglas, Scott, Leaupepe Bench: Anderson, Merkviladze, Alipev or Harris, Marble This leaves out the freshman + Mayoum (who is technically still a freshman). Would love to see one of them crack the rotation but hard to see any of them being better than the guys listed above.

Incredible moment just before my time on the bluff. What I'm most struck at there is how much better Gersten looks than it did back then. Will be hard to top this time when we hosted New Mexico State...

I liked that court design much better than our current one. Gersten was packed that night. I remember rushing the court. Hope Stan can fill the building again.

That was a great write up on the Lions schedule. I do hope they add a few more games. I think its a solid schedule. I would have loved to see UCLA and USC on our schedule but like he said, no top team will want to play the Lions at home or even on the road. Good building block for hopefully an opportunity to make the Tournament.

Dude does a terrific job covering the WCC to great detail. Just burned the first two hours of my workday going through his articles.

It's always funny to read Will. I respect the hell out of his dedication to covering the conference. He's a Gonzaga alum, and if any of you have Zags in your life, you know that they generally ignore the rest of the WCC on a good day, and disdain it on a bad one. Will truly cares about the entire conference, and writes about it more consistently and passionately than anyone else I've come across. That being said, he's always low on LMU. So you can't hate him, but can't really love him, either! Lol. Glad to see he's giving us some shine in this article, though.

That’s a lot of hype for our team. Stan is doing a great job building the hype with his video guy. But I thought that LMU would arrive sort of quietly and shock the world, but this is the opposite. I hope this works out! That game against FSU is kind of the best team in the schedule but a lot of those other games seem like trap games.

Getting in the basketball mood these days and wondering about recruits for next season. I see 5 Senior/Grads on our current roster. One is Eli who is here on the Covid exemption in his 5th year. So, I figure we have 4 openings to fill (other things being equal) and no commits yet. Is this correct? Looking forward to the group of home games next month to start the season right.

I believe that is correct, now that it is October it is about time to start expecting some verbal commitments. Can't wait to see who CSJ can bring in with his first true year of active recruiting.

According to Twitter we will be playing Washington State in a secret scrimmage this weekend.

Here or in Pullman? Secret scrimmages are usually bus drives away, not plane flights… I love it!

It was here in LA. I have been checking Twitter but no mention of the score.
