Mid Major Top 25 (as of Nov 14)
1. Gonzaga 2. Saint Mary’s 11. BYU
Also receiving votes:
USF Santa Clara Portland San Diego
Others:
11. UC Irvine Bellarmine
I expect the list to change tomorrow – Nov 21 update not yet available. I think the Lions will be in the “also receiving votes” list.
Randy Bennett (Saint Mary's) and Shantay Legans (Portland) are members of the voting panel.,

Today's update is out. www.collegeinsider.com/mens-mid-major-top-258 of the 10 WCC schools are in the ~Top 50 Mid Major teams in the country. Not too shabby! For the WCC 1. Gonzaga 4. Saint Mary's 19. San Francisco 20. BYU Receiving Votes 27. Portland 29. Santa Clara 35. Loyola Marymount 37. San Diego Other Teams of Interest: 11. UC Irvine 14. Grand Canyon 43. UC Riverside If we can beat Colorado State and Nevada I see us getting in the Top 25 next week. Strong progress since the Riverside loss.

Disappointing poll in my eyes. We won two more games and got fewer votes than last week (20 votes vs 25 last week). I have USF as #19 and BYU as #20 - a minor point. Pacific and Pepperdine are no shows, which is appropriate. Glad to see Portland relatively high on the list - team 25 got 98 votes and Portland 85 - so they are close to being there. They deserve a place in the top 25 but their 5-4 record doesn't help.
Next week, if we can win the next two games, I agree we should get into the top 25.

Good catch! Agreed re: where we slotted in this week. I was hoping for a bump, potentially into the Top 25 rather than losing votes after 2 solid wins...

We lost ground again in this poll, while Grand Canyon is still on the list at #23. We got only 4 votes! We lost to an excellent Colorado State team and beat Grand Canyon on their home court. Go figure. Gonzaga, Saint Mary's and USF are still in the top 25, while Santa Clara is #26. Portland lost ground also.
I'm disappointed. I expect better in the next poll.

On the plus side, we get to fly under the national radar for a bit until we're 4-1 in conference with a surprise win over one of the bigger boys and TV announcers start saying things like "this LMU team really hasn't gotten the credit it deserves, it's a real contender" to sound smart!

I love your optimism lionlife and hope you are correct. I expect we will be 10-4 going into league play. However, 4 of our first 5 games will be challenging. We should beat Pacific and keep close with BYU, but we could end up 1-4 in WCC play to start. It depends on the quality our how the Lions play, we do have talent this year but it’s erratic.

There is a small part of me that feels like this made major top 25 ranking is a little biased. I have compared some of the analytics to the top 25 and it doesn’t match up at all. Why are teams like Bryant; Northwestern State, and Furman ranked so high?? Even there NET rankings don’t match up!! I hope to see a drastic change in these rankings in the coming weeks or this panel of coaches is on something.

Coaches usually don’t even fill these out… It’s usually someone further down the totem pole. Plus there probably aren’t many teams in Bryant and Furman’s conferences to compete with, whereas we were viewed as a lower-level WCC team going into the season…even though we’re having a good year so far, we were picked to finish eighth or ninth out of ten. Perception is difficult to change.

KenPom still has us as the 7th ranked team in the WCC despite being ranked 116 and this potentially being our best team this century (if we had a healthy Douglas and Taitz then we probably would be). WCC is going to be brutal this year - USF, Santa Clara, and Portland could all upend BYU to get a top 3 spot, and we could be in that conversation as well. Saint Mary's and Gonzaga should separate themselves as the top 2 teams (despite Saint Mary's loss to Colorado State), but if Saint Mary's doesn't then we are looking at a one bid league.
Honesntly wouldn't be surprised if a .500 record in league was good enough for third - assuming Gonzaga and Saint Mary's combine for only 3-4 losses in league.

New poll will be out later today. I expect us to do better than the measly 4 votes we got last week!

We’ve gone from 4 to 7 WOOOOOAAHHHH!!! It’s total BS if you ask me, when NET rankings have us at 91, which is waaay higher than some of those other teams! How is Santa Clara RANKED 17 but we are ahead of them in NET rankings?! Bryant is 159 in NET, but they are getting 80 votes??!! I bet you could find other teams! I just tend to question who really voting then. We beat GCU at their home gym, and we still can’t get a little respect! 🤦♂️
