The boys are coming out with fight on Thursday Night for the home fans. Let’s get Rick back in the mix and push St. Mary’s around. I believe! Good game incoming. Well well well. Too many hating comments from some of you after losses. If the players had negative mindsets like some on here, they would’ve never won any game after UCRiverside. Sit back and enjoy the ride. “Trust the process.” Proud of the boys and always will be, win or lose.

Well, that was quite the game! I’ve not seen or heard that level of excitement in Gersten since the days of yore when Gathers and Kimble were doing their thing. I really was afraid that last week’s debacle would dampen the fan spirit for tonight. So glad I was wrong. It wasn’t a sellout but there weren’t a whole lot of empty seats. And once the Lions made up for that early deficit, the crowd was loud and supportive. After decades of disappointment, it does my heart good to see the level of enthusiasm displayed tonight.
The guys deserve every accolade you care to throw their way. Overcoming that early 16-0 deficit was a mighty feat in itself. But to stay with a very, very good Gaels team for the rest of the game was truly special. It’s hard to argue with the MVP chants for Cam. Once again, he carried the team with a relentless attack. With Saxon in foul trouble, he couldn’t step up to stop Cam’s drives. I was surprised that no one else could at least get in his way. Special praise also to our big guy. Issanza was pivotal in protecting the rim. It doesn’t show too much in the box score, but he had a strong game.
That’s 6 signature wins for the Lions this year - Wake Forest, Nevada, Grand Canyon in Phoenix, Gonzaga, BYU and now St Mary’s). That’s more in one season since you know who. I may not agree with everything Coach Stan does, but he and team deserve credit for what they have accomplished this season.
On the injury front, Sniper expects to play Saturday against Santa Clara. Regarding Lamaj, I didn’t talk to him, but given the strong limp and wincing grimaces, it doesn’t look like he’s going to be much use for at least the rest of the regular season and perhaps even for the tournament. Too bad, he was just starting to display sone success and he adds some much needed athleticism.

Stan has to have WCC COTY locked up at this point.

ADG - I thought COTY was likely for Coach Johnson before last week, then thought it was Bennett’s award. But Coach Johnson is right back in the fight. We just need to close out the year strong.

It’s too bad we have lost some of the games we have. I don’t think there’s much chance for a tournament at large bud because of the “bad losses” but it’ll be a season to remember regardless. And who knows—- come wcc tournament time, anything can happen this year.
In 30 years as a fan though I can’t remember a player that so drastically looks night and day diff more than cam Shelton from last year to this year. He’s looked like one of the better players I have seen throughout college basketball this year … and I watch a lot of ball!

If not for those loses to pacific and USD we’d be on the bubble. Maybe if we win out we can get back on it. And yes never felt more of a chance for us to win it all in Vegas than this year. Big game sat to keep 3rd place. I will be there!

After watching Cam last year, I didn’t think he had the ability to drive. He very seldom took it to the hoop. I mean only a handful of times ALL season. This year, almost no one stops him. Night and day difference.

Big game sat to keep 3rd place. I will be there! Most teams on the bubble right now have a Net/KenPom ranking of 35-55, unfortunately we are at about 90. If it wasn't for these two losses (and if we just had a respectable loss at BYU), I think we probably could be in the 60s and very close to being in that bubble conversation - but this definitely puts as back in the running for an NIT bid. And to your point, we have shown that we can beat every team in this conference, Vegas is up for grabs...

I want to give a shout out to Jalin Anderson who has graciously accepted his role as non-starter. Down 16-0 with the Gaels defense stifling our shooters, Jalin came in and jump started the offense with his shooting and driving. Without Jalin’s critical performance, who knows how that game might have turned out? For the worse I’m guessing. Way to go Jalin! Your contributions are noted and appreciated.

Regarding the Big Dance, doesn’t the field have to include at least one Cinderella team? That should help our chances.

Wow.
Wow. Wow. Wow.
What a @$!#ing win last night!
We played most of the game like we knew we belonged, although I'll be honestly, that stretch of awful turnovers from about the 8-5 minute mark left in the game (the backcourt violation, the travels, the passes to no one) had me thinking "same old LMU, we're not quite there yet". Was I ever wrong. The shot making was incredible, and Shelton hit a level at the end there that reminded one of Isaiah Thomas during his Celtics season or the guy at the rec who's just too good to be there. Absolutely unstoppable. I mean, neither team got a stop in overtime until the very end of the period. And how about that shot by Ahrens? Everything had to go right for us, and everything did. Oh well, I suppose that makes up for the boneheaded turnovers. Just can't get over how impressive it was that we clearly lost our composure for a few minutes and managed to regain it against the best team in the conference.
Finally, I'm ready to say it - Cam is playing at a higher level right now than any LMU player of this millennium. Ant, Viney, Batemon and even Eli have had their moments, but not like this. Not like his overtime, and not this consistently.

Wanted to chime on here as part of history!
First game I attended in 3-4 seasons and one of about 3-4 since 2013. That was definitely the best atmosphere that I’ve been a part of in a long time. Only matched by 2011 against Portland and 2006 Adam Morrison game/ family weekend.
I’m my almost 20 years as a fan we’ve haven’t had a lot of fun times. I appreciated that this was a hyped up game that lived up to its billing and very impressed with the team not falling apart after that rough 3 minute stretch late in the 2nd half. Everything went right including free throws and some lousy WCC officiating that almost took it.
Hopefully this is a program building season. Running the table will be hard but hopefully they can stay 2nd and get into a semi finals game.
