Yale won their season opener against Vassar of the Liberty League 102-53. They appear to have good size and have success in their recent DNA.

Last season Yale lost to Vanderbilt in their opening NIT game.

Yale plays Gonzaga on Friday, Nov 10, before visiting Gersten. The Bulldogs also play Santa Clara later this season.

Well played first half, but it seems like Yale knows that LMU is switching everything so they are just getting their big guy switched to a guard and getting a lot of paint looks. Don’t know why we feel like we need to switch everything.

Offense looks good. Harris and Theimann especially.

Yale definitely looked like a team that has been player together longer than we have. Given our size I was surprised by the lack of rebounding and rim protection (other than the one stretch by Issanza). Our 4 guards are all good and will carry us on offense, we just need to remember how to play defense without fouling. Pretty good first game of the season but would have been nice to get a win. I expect Harris to be starting sooner rather than later.

I like what I saw from the perimeter players, and we easily could have won that game.

Side note - really cool to have Drew Viney on the ESPN+ broadcast doing color commentary.

On a good note, the drummers were great!
This was a fun game to watch between two well matched teams. Like lmu says, Yale definitely looks like a team that has played together longer. Yale has some good players - Mbeng was unstoppable, and their 7-footer Wolf showed lots of basketball skills to go with his size.
Regarding the Lions, I want to see lots more of Harris. He needs the ball more often and should have taken our last shot. The other three guards are impressive but I didn't see any real standout to compare with Harris.
Thiemann was very good but a victim of many close "charging" fouls, which were called too close for my comfort. Nice to see Issanza out there with his athleticism especially on defense.
On the down side, I really don't see much growth in Lewis's game given the promise he showed in his first year at LMU.
This is probably too negative but I wondered if Leaupepe has stayed one year too long? Tonight, he was not the dominant man on the court I was hoping for - 2 for 9 from the field and a little off handling the ball.
This was probably that early season loss that will help the team improve in the future, at least I hope so.
There was a good crowd in Gersten tonight mostly Lions fans along with a section of Bulldog fans as well.

Like Lionlike noted, it's fun to have Drew Viney broadcasting a color man on the audio. He does a good job with his knowledge of the game and is looking sharp. You can say "hi" to him pregame when you enter the Pavillion and are seated on the West side.

What a fantastic turnout! It was truly our game to win. What is clear and very evident is Dominick Harris is a guy. He stands out and just pops off the page. We should lean into that more. Overall, I truly believe we are team that can win any game. I expect significant adjustments for our squad.
