As Midnight Madness approaches, I sure hope the LMU athletics administration pulls out all the stops this year. Last year, many of you may recall our thread on Midnight Madness. I still hold fast those views:
1) Better publicity of the event. Last year, if I recall correctly the Associated Press and Los Angeles Times were quoted as saying that USC, Pepperdine, UC Irvine, and Long Beach St. were the only Southern California universities to host a midnight madness. LMU's Athletic office NEEDS TO GET THE WORD OUT to the MEDIA. 2) Season Ticket holders, Alumni, and the Westchester community needs to be informed and invited to the event. LMU did a nice job for the Bill Bayno press conference and informing individuals. It is time for LMU to step it up for Midnight Madness 3) Make the event more main stream and more traditional BASKETBALL Midnight Madness. Enough of the crap. IF LMU is committed to making this a BASKETBALL school, we need to make the focus of the event BASKETBALL instead of hidding it and blurring it with dancings and competitions from the student body. I'm not saying do away with everything from prior years. Just tone that down a bit and focus more on BASKETBALL. 4) CONSULT BILL BAYNO AND JULIE W. on their PREFERENCES. This is a NEW ERA in LMU Basketball. Let's get a freshness out there with the students. Give the mic to Bill to speak, beg, pleed the student body to show up at games. Bill is EXTREMELY CONVIENCING and can easily pull it off. BILL can turn this event into some fun and show the seriousness of the change in culture that will take place at LMU and its basketball program. BAYNO is a MARKETING MACHINE.

How about a dunk contest? most big name schools have dunk contests for their midnight madness. It would bring a lot of excitement to the event for sure. And we definitely have the athletes now to do it.

Honestly I think that previous MMs have been more student focused than basketball focus was because the lack of talent on our team. I mean the last MM I went to there was a free shooting game and most players were just tossing up bricks then. A dunk contest in the light would be a disaster and humiliating. Hopefully as the players we recruit have more skill and cache THEY will be the reason to go to MM and not nekkid dancers.

You dont think Viney, Hamilton, Young, and someone else could make a dunk contest entertaining?
I dont think it would be a disaster at all. Maybe past years but not this year. Every midnight madness is so lame. There is not even focus on basketball what so ever. they announce the team and then do a stupid ass dance. its a joke. Its embarrassing to even watch "midnight madness", which is supposed to be a showcase for the basketball team, to actually be a fricken dance contest instead. Give me a break.

Emphasis on previous. I think things will change with the Bayno era if we keep getting stud recruits.

If its anything like last year, the Midnight Madness ROAR is one of the best of the year because so many freshman head out to it. Either Midnight Madness or Homecoming where the best ROARS. I wonder if any of the leaders of ROAR are members on this site and if not they should be.

I mean its great the ROAR is in full force, as they are a great portion of the fans that have attended the games in the past years. That being said, it would also be nice if the actual Midnight Madness would be more than the athletic teams doing competitive dance competitions. Hopefully Bayno will improve it this year.

I am one of the co-presidents of the roar this year. I've been a member on here since its beginnings and also used to be on the old Gonzaga board for anyone who was on there(IronLions). I will let anyone know who is interested where we will be watching away games . Also, we are trying to gauge interest in Roar shirts made for non-students if anyone is interested who attend the games. Give us some feedback on here or PM me for more. This season should be an entertaining one and hopefully we can pull off some upsets in Gersten to get the student body excited. Personally, I like the way our midnight madness is run. I think another event should be held closer the next day or on sunday which features a Crimson vs. White or something along those lines scrimmage that is publicized to the community and alumni. The students like and expect what midnight madness has become. I know other schools run it differently. But I think having two distinct events would be the only compromise acceptable.

Thanks for logging on lionboy.
I however do not believe that midnight madness, that stands for the beginning of basketball season for so many colleges around the nation, should be turned into a judged dance contest where the basketball players do nothing more than throw little b asketballs into the stand and do a silly dance.
Basketball fans, like myself are bored sick when attending midnight madness, and attend only because they think that possibly maybe just maybe more focus will be on basketball that year. To me personally (i dont know how other people feel) Midnight Madness in the recent years has been the administrations way of saying our basketball team is not that great this year, so instead of showcasing them, we are just going to have a little dance contest. Its ridiculous and I am praying this year will be different and that bayno will have some say in making this celebration exciting and popular again.

Zagfanforlife, you took the words right out of my mouth. BOTTOM LINE: In past years, LMU Administration has ABUSED the national midnight madess BASKETBALL tradition and turned it into to an excuse to get the study body together for a dance contest. Believe me, if this pattern does not change this year......Mr. HUSAK will have a bunch of letters flooding his mailbox. Letter writing campaign will begin in earnest from LMU alumni and season ticket holders. OUT WITH OLD. Lionboy, go ask the dean of the school of liberal arts to hold a DANCE COMPETITION for you and your compadres that enjoy that event. This year MUST be DIFFERENT. IT'S TIME FOR LMU BASKETBALL. WELECOME TO THE PAVILLION AGAIN, BILL BAYNO! ;D

You're right, lionspride. Clearly, these programs suffered from their teams' gyrations and secular applause.
The more you post, the more I'm convinced that you're not serious, and just trying to get a rise out of us.
Oh, and the liberal arts program isn't where you want to send your campaign. You want the fine arts building, near alumni mall. Maybe you can talk to them, and realize that there's more to LMU than Bill Bayno and the Caps Lock key.

lmutex, get real. Midnight Madness is about College Basketball's first day to practice. That is the night to show off the basketball program. And we should be excited about getting a new coach who is going to bring success to the program. I bet you are like one of those people who love the YMCA sports and AYSO because "everyone plays". And then after the game you go up to the losing teams and say "everyone is a winner here". Are you proud of the Steve Aggers, Charles Bradley, and tention's teams that showed up to midnight madness with short shorts on practicing some off the wall dance instead of showing off their basketball skills? If you are proud of that, than you probably shouldnt be posting on a board that is directed to lmu basketball.

I think the dance comp between teams is fun. I do however have an issue with 5 different dance teams doing 10 min performance each. The MM ceremonies are WAY to long right now. Lots of energy in the start but people taking naps by the end. Also, can we get a sound system with a mic where you can actually hear what the person using it is saying.
Thank you.
