My 2 deep depth chart.
PG- JD has Good's trust and experience will help Vernon- Can play like Odom of Lakers to come in and be a spark when starters need a break. Can create for himself.
SG-Larry Can handle the ball and can slide to the one when trying to play a bigger lineup but great off of screens at the top of the key. Given has the shoot and athletic ability but is he healthy? Vernon or Drew can move to this spot depending on the lineup they want with size and scoring ability. SF- Drew's size and shooting ability will be too great for most defenders and can provide on hell of a match up for Bouldin later in the year. Ashley has the speed to take defenders off the dribble but he needs to learn to finish with contact on the ind side and clean up his jump shot. Kevin could slide to the three to allow Ashley to play more of the four spot.
PF- K Young needs to add more bulk but a definite loving relationship was made with the coaching staff and as long as he stops forcing 3s he could be here for a long time. Alex- from what I have heard is a leaper like KY but is still a little raw with his foot work. But posses the big body to bang inside with some of the bigger guys.
C- Tim D should be making another start here for at least a while until Edgar can become the inside first step out second type of player they need. Edgar has a nice face up game but the question is how many jump shots does he need to take compared to Drew or Larry?
Look outs- You never know how some of these guys may act with all the new competition but I wouldn't be surprised to see Sweezy make a push for some playing time around TV timeouts where he can grind out a few possessions and not give anything up defensively. When we had a bench last year Coach Good loved to throw a couple of them in to rest the starters so its a viable option.
Redshirts: with Givens injury that makes him a possible, Quincy and Kevin are both options. It would be tough to justify a walk-on but it wouldn't be the first time. And news from players is that while athletic Quincy has some kinks to work out of his jump shot. Laron may also be a candidate to spread out the classes and make the roster a little more even for scholarships opening up every year.

Welcome to the board lmutourney2011. A very nice run down on potential line ups. Drew and Ash can both cause a lot of match up problems for other teams....Teel as well. VT is very big and strong and fast, if he players under control i see him starting a lot of games.
I spoke with Given about a month ago and he said he just needs to rest. I don't think he is a red-shirt candidate...at least I hope not.

well from what i observed from last years games we were undersized with the injurys and vt went down we were left mainly with 3freshmen rt remaining players we truly have forgotten that laron stepped in and did ahelluva job against ucla arizona etc etc great rbding dfsn even tho the team was stll gtn klld i saw effort improvement and unselfish play and GOOD coaching and coach good turned them loose in man2 man dfns things got better all whn laron stepped in so hers my 2 deep roster imho opinion PG LD&JD=SIZE,SMART,GOOD GAME&BALLHNDLING skills sg=vt&la=here u have aggressiveness&scoring with good size and helluva defense sf=viney &kyoung until ky bulks up he will be great at the 3 pf=king ashely&alex we need the most hlp rbndng that hurt us last year this combo with the combo of c=eg&td wll be allmst unstppble and lts not frgt brad who shwd nthing but effort &energy last year the goal is to when the wcc not just get better look wht usd did the year before last they beat the zags won the wcc out right and went the big dance (ncaa trny) so lmu get your focus together we have to bet the monsters of the wcc gonzaga

Got to like the enthusiasm. I'm all about having a less "dramatic" season but I'm with you on the ultimate goal. Improving is nice. A .500 season is nice. But we want to dance. Period. Will we revive this thread when the season starts? What shall the winner receive? I think there will be a lot of variation in the first few weeks to see how things gel. But on the first game... PG: Dubois (a lot of experience here and confidence to lead the team) SG:Teel SF: Viney PF: Young C: Diedrichs Ironlions do you think TD will be questionable coming into the season? Seems like he's been out for awhile.

PG: Dubois SG: Davis SF:Viney PF:Hamilton C: Garibay
I see Teel and Young as great energy guys who can provide a spark off the bench. It would be interesting to see Kevin Young at the 3 sometime.

Starting lineup for 2009:
PG- Dubois SG- Teel SF- Viney PF- Hamilton C- Diedrichs
Backups
PG- Davis SG- Kalipinde SF- Young PF- Osborne C- Garibay
Too many guys that need PT will be our main problem. I think Laron will see some time somewhere as well.

lmumbbfan Good thoughts in your posting. I was able to decipher most of it except: "pf=king ashely&alex we need the most hlp rbndng that hurt us last year" The "king" part threw me off. Did you post this from a cell phone? Agree that rebounding needs to be improved.

You did not say if your posting if from a phone! Do you have tunnel-thumb symptoms? I think I got most of the thought - here you are not charged by the character so you can feel free to spell out your message for us oldtimers with no additional charge. You did waste some characters using "ass" for "as" a few times. Question: are you a Bayno fan with the great legacy he left us in his short tenure or is the Bayno "koolaid" remark a negative? I know we are disappointed that Bayno left us - I guess he really could not handle the stress of the season he envisioned for LMU after losing three games straight with an undisiplined Vernon Teel at the helm in his opening tourment, but he did leave a solid foundation for the future. For this, I thank Bayno and AD Husak for taking the chance on Bayno. Lets move forward and make some noise in the NCAA as well as the WCC!

with the schedule the lions have this year i think it'd be wise to play Ash at the 5..he'd be a mismatch for anyone guarding him because he can play both inside and out..not to mention he's as strong as an ox so defending wont be an issue either..

I'm not too sure how everyone is seeing Ashley play the 5? Lets not forget that you have to be strong in the lower body if you are undersized. Brad had the best leg strength last year out of anyone and he used it, but ashley is mainly upper body. He is quick but he reaches too much and his offensive inside game is shaky at best. If you go back to some of those games that he played in it seemed like everytime he got the ball 1/3 would be a turnover or forced bad shot 1/3 a missed shot and 1/3 a made basket. He did have a good game against Notre Dame but Harangody is there only real inside guy and marco and brad drew that assingment while kevin and ashley played outside on the lanky guy. On a game to game basis he could be servicable at the 5 because its a favorable matchup but lets not forget Sacre is 7 plus and SMC didnt lose their guy(sorry I'm blanking on the name). Postland has two big guys and and they play both in and out so there is a possibility there. But most teams are gonna have a big starting 5. I'm not trying to bag on Ashley because I havent seen him shoot since April but he is a great practice shooter but when the lights come on things are a littel different. We have two great bigs, TD with a year of exp. and good inside post moves and Edgar that is a big body that can step out to 15. If we start putting to many "undersized but fast guys" we won't ever get a stop when they get 2nd and 3rd and 4th chances per possesion. They are called bigs for a reason.
