The talk of being ranked 323 with DuBois being our best player got me thinking: What is our starting lineup?
For sake of argument, let's say Davis is healthy. Who starts? Here are my two cents: Young, Viney, Davis, DuBois, Teel. Those seem like our five best players. I know it would be a three-guard lineup. If you had to throw in another big, I suppose it would be Diedrichs? I know Garibay is supposed to step right in, but I'm thinking he will come off the bench. You all know more than I do, what do you think?
Also, which freshman do you think will have the best impact THIS season? Kalipinde sounds like he has a higher ceiling than Garibay, Lawson, or Osborne, but unless we play with a three-guard lineup, I don't see him getting a ton of minutes.

Let's not forget Hamilton in the mix. He seems to have grown a bit over the summer and is build like a rock. He will find playing time inside also. Diedrichs started every game as a freshman so has the experience and now an extra year of maturity and growth. He should compete for starting center position with Garibay.

While all the people mentioned in the first starting lineup are valuable players and have good talent, that lineup would get manhandled on the boards and inside. Kevin Young playing against Dior Lowhorn or Rob Sacre??? I dont thnk so.
I would go with a lineup possibly looking like this
PG: Dubois SG:Davis SF: Viney PF: Young C: Diedrichs
Stil not a ton of size, but Garibay will not be able to start from day one. Very few freshman have the mental or physical skills to start from the opening game. The fact that with this lineup you would have Hamilton, Teel, Armstead, Garibay, Kalipinde, and Lawson coming off the bench i downright scary. This team could easily go 10 deep. ... is it lookingas if Larry Davis will be available opening night? And if so, could he possibly start at the one.. or is he more of a sg?

Not a bad starting lineup Zags - from what I've heard, we may need to be patient with Garibay. Coach Good will have some fun this year finding his rotation. We also have Armstead and Sweezy who both played valuable minutes last year. Armstead poured in 18 vs UCLA at Pauley and went 40 minutes in several games. And Sweezy brought some toughness inside against bigger opponents.

It appears as though we have to many able bodies at some positions. Who are the canidates to be redshirted this year?

Dubois/Davis/Viney/Young/Osborne
Dubois-Good seems to trust him, I don't think it'll be easy to overtake him. Davis/Teel-depending on health, Davis has the spot probably, although if Teel has learned from last season and improved his decision making he could easily make this competitive considering the impact he's proven he can have on the floor. Viney-no question. Young-He's gonna start here, a solid glue player who if he can finish inside more reliably and hit a midrange shot will flourish. He'll be outmatched starting at center and Coach good would probably have to worry about ruining another nice watch. No reason we want to allow our most proven bigman to pick up some cheap early fouls. I'd like to see him be able to play a bit more aggressively on a smaller player. osborne/Tim-I think Osborne can make a serious run at a starting spot. He seems to be physically ready, and to have the right instincts to be very serviceable despite being a Freshman.

Osborne has the body but is young and did not play against the type of competition he will see in the WCC. We need to bring him along slowly, not as a starter in the early season. We do need a body in center and its unfair to use Viney or Young in that spot - they will be overmatched. Regarding redshirts - Armstead would be a candidate but I ask will it get any better after next year. He will likely have even more competition for playing time in the years thereafter with the recruits we are looking at. So I don't see this happening. Perhaps Garibay if he isn't ready but we can use his size in the middle. Can't speak to Lawson, he seems to have the talent to contribute now and we want him to get experience. Bottom line: I don't really see any good RS prospects, unless it is the walk on from Chicago - Berardini - we are pretty deep at guard.

PG- Dubois ( I still see him as more of a SG, but he can run the team the best)
SG-Teel until Davis is back in playing shape.
SF-Viney ( I'm predicting WCC 1st team)
PF-Young ( Hamilton could challenge for PT if he plays with a chip on his shoulder and bangs in the lane)
C-Garibay until Diedrich is back in playing shape.
There is very little drop off of players coming of the bench.
Go Lions.

I agree with Ironlions. Reports on Garibay is that he is playing above the rim and is showing good progress. Still tends to drift away from the basket... a bad habit that I think Coach will correct. Tim D could start with Garibay for a monster front and have Young off the bench to speed up action. This will allow us to possibly Redshirt Osborne and/or Quincy. The Aziz visit was good. He will do other visits before committing but the word is he liked us, and the team really liked him.

Good report waterboy - thanks! Any chemistry between Aziz and Given?

Any chemistry between Aziz and Given? This sounds like we want them to date I talked to player and they said they all got to hang out with Aziz, and he was cool- Its good to hear that the visit went well. I hope we can get him locked up. Getting him would be the step in the right direction for us to continue to be in the top half of the WCC. I would rather red-shirt Lawson at this point. He is going to be very good for us down the road. A year off working on his jumper and adding upper body strength would be very beneficial to him and to the team. Go Lions

Now, now ironliions - they are both from Africa, both with links to Scholl... I was hoping Given could be more convincing on coming to LMU than the typical LMU teammate in light of their common backgrounds.

Just having a little fun...I'm sure their common background and ties to Scholl were discussed.

Ash must have put on close to 15 pounds of muscle since last season. He is a very athletic and a legit 6'8" If we wanted a faster line up why not put him at the 5. In the one game we got to watch him in vs. ND he held his own against Haringody. I'm sure the coach staff will do a lot of experimenting at the start of the season.
PG-Jarred SG-Larry SF-Drew PF-Kevin C-Ashley
I think one of the keys to be successfully in the WCC is having a lot of speed...this could be a intriguing line up.

I agree ironlions - I saw Ash at the Lion's Fund/Academic Awards dinner near Garibay and he looked almost as tall. And Hamilton is built like a rock, all muscle. I like the idea of him at center. He could hold his own. In some warmups last yearand even though injured and out for the season, I saw him casually and in a humorous manner holding Kevin's jersey under the basket and Kevin coudn't go anywhere. Ash was having fun, Kevin wasn't.
