Wow, I don't know what to say. Considering we played zero defense and didn't rebound, it is amazing we only lost by five.
On the flip side, we wasted another great offensive effort (see Boise State). When you score 84, you should win...especially at home.
Other than the Academy of Arts, I don't think we can win without both Garibay and Davis. Let's hope the former's injury is not serious, and let's hope the latter keeps getting well.

Also, I noticed Armstead barely sniffed the court. And no Ashley.
Without Davis, it looks like Given will get a long look.
If Garibay is out, who gets the long look? Tonight, it looks like Sweezy got a few extra minutes. Maybe Osborne? Are Armstead and Ashley falling out of the rotation completely?

Lets not make excuses we got beat. We wanted new this is new. We have top recruits, rated as top Mid Major recruiting class. If one player is out who cares we need to win. Sorry I'm not buying the Kool Aid. OJ and his squad won bottom line. The more we talk about Banyo outcast they win. Let's stop support this team help them get a win, whatever it takes. The outcast our doing just fine, we need the new blood to win. Winning is not just scoring points but playing defense.
I guess I can say the outcast were right to leave because I don't see anything better going on here. Don't say injury with all our recruits if someone goes down they should be better than the the Outcast since we all said they were no D1 players on Tentions team. I guess he's laughing at us right now.... Orlando beats us with UCSB, Kwame is killing at USF, Alaska kid is doing good. I'm upset, pi2kkkdjdjjed off, not happy. FIX IT or go AD...... We've spent too much money for this product. DEFENSE wins games, do it....

Armstead was in briefly and had a turn over with a sloppy pass - Max yanked him quickly. Gone in 60 seconds! What Max wants out of Armstead and Sweezy this year is some defense and NO ERRORS. He is not counting or their scoring but he won't accept plays that hurt the team. Viney again carried us but cannot do everything. UCSB was keying on him, wisely, but he got his high double and played great defense. Given was everywhere and is getting comfortable on the court - no one hustles more for loose balls, rebounds or on defense. Near the end of the game, he had a remarkable block on a Serna layup, something our bigs did not accomplish well. I think the coaches are getting comfortable with Given on the floor and the more he plays, the better he will get. Some others will not likely improve with experience so Given has something to offer our more seasoned players don't. I am expecting double digit minutes from Given for the remainder of the season, even with Davis back. We did miss Edgar after he went down, mostly on defense and under the basket. He was struggling to get the good shots he has had lately. I think teams are starting to understand that he can score and are adjusting accordingly. Osborne put in some good time with some hustle and defense and one nice drive down the baseline to make a bank shot while closely guarded. Coaches seemed to be having some issues with Kevin at times but he played well and really helped on offense. Would like to have seen more drives to the basket to get UCSB's frontcourt in foul trouble earlier in the game. Vernon had an above average game but JD was just average - he got his double but scoring was inconsistent. And we have to give UCSB some credit for using weapons that did not show up in their stats - they have a lot of talent and lots of players contributed tonight. We held OJ in check in the first half and well into the game but he ended up with about 18 points anyway - several foul shots late in the game helped his stats.
This was an exciting game to watch but frustrating. We were even or better most of the first half but a little run late put UCSB up at the break and that gave them some confidence that they could win. I have to check who was on the court for LMU at that time - I think Viney was out for the last 2.5 minutes of the first half when UCSB pulled ahead.
Garibay was wearing a knee brace at the end of the game and still limping. Without Garibay, we are going to have a difficult season again. I did not see what happened to injure Garibay - I am guessing he just came down wrong on a move. He went down on the perimeter not under the net. I looked up and suddenly he was on the floor holding his knee.
Expect to see lots of the bench in our next game.

I did not mention Diederichs in my comments. As I watched the game, he seemed to be playing well on defense. Garibay was pulled early in the first half after a foul and Tim put in minutes. But reviewing the box score, Tim had 0 rebounds, 0 points and 1 steal in 13 minutes. Osborne played 10 minutes, scored 2 points on 1 for 1 shooting, 2 boards, 1 steal and 1 block. And like Given this is a player that will improve with every minute on the court as he gains experience and becomes more comfortable with his game at this level. Like alert2, I am not upset at this loss, disappointed yes, but not upset. And I am looking forward to seeing more of our new guys in the game. Go Lions!

Tention has 3 years to run our program into the ground. OJ, Kwame, and a guy playing well at the D2 level would also NOT make us a very good team. Given and Osborne got good minutes. They were improving on the court. I'm not as upset by this loss as I thought I would be. We need to win games like this but the lions stayed in there when we could have folded. Like Tentions old squads. Could have just sunk into our chairs and cried. But we battled back. They just were on fire from the 3 and we were not aggressive on D. It was like we were afraid they had H1N1 or something. Garibay and Davis missing hurts. We need them healthy and competitive if we want to go anywhere in the WCC. We are a bad team as of now. I hope things get better. But don't start talking about Baynos outcasts like they would have posted anything more than a 6 win season this year if Tention was still here sulking on his seat! Sorry too much money spent on Banyo and Max no excuses. We got horses if one goes down the othe steps up. Its got to get done otherwise why did we spend the money. Top recruiting class. I want more sorry this is a disgrace. We got HM players at LMU, we need to play at HM level each and every night. In a recession I want more I want the stands filled and winning. NO EXCUSES we got beat by a program with less talent, no excuses. USC did not have players and are rebuilding, we need defense. OJ got his points at the end I think he had 8 or 9 rebouunds too. Sorry right now we need to right this ship. Don't make excuses we got beat. Nobody should be happy without L. Davis playing. We he had helped who knows the bottom line we have 3 and 4 star players and UCSB does not.... Right the ship and right it now.

Please stop the Bayno talk. Let's turn the page. We need to focus on the current squad.
Hopefully the injury to Garibay is minor, and even if he sits out a game or two, it will allow someone else to step up and play. We currently appear to have six guys playing quality ball (Teel, DuBois, Young, Davis, Viney, and Garibay) with a seventh (Given) on the verge of joining that mix. We need at least one or two more players out of Diedrichs, Osborne, Armstead, Sweezy, Hamilton to jump into the mix.
If we take care of business on Wednesday, the bottom five should see a lot of minutes. Let's hope at least one makes his presence known. Go Lions!

If we lose to Academy of Arts we need to shut the program down. Reading the previous post I agree with this. NO EXCUSES anymore. Win now or be done, blow it up, tear it apart. Defense wins games not offense. I'm embarrassed with this lost. We should have more heart with an outcast like OJ but he came in to our house took the food off the table and left full, were still hungry I hope but I'm not sure. I just know a lot of money has been spent, new offices, talent, recruiting budget etc.... Win now or blow it up. No jokes and no excuses, we cannot lose these games. Whatever the team is next should be an easy win we need to be like Portland right now, getting it done. Whats the problem... Not happy

dclem and alert2 - we will win the next game for sure. I guarantee it! But Max is in his first full year as coach and his recruits look OK to me - at least Alex (Given and Edgar were already signed by Bayno). Need to see more of Lawson if he isn't redshirting. Davis was not dressed tonight, nor was Lawson. Hamilton seemed to be limping a bit. We lost Garibay at the wrong time. And UCSB made their shots when needed. After Academy of Art, Wyoming will be difficult, then we return home for a few games. Let's get our new talent some experience now for the WCC season. Portland, Gonzaga and Saint Mary's will carry the WCC banner this year but let's give them a hard time.
