Big game tomorrow at three after the womens match with the Peppers at noon. The Lions need a win to slow down the Dons and close the points gap.
The Lion defense played well yesterday keeping the Broncos real chances to a minimum. The Lions will need more of the same Sunday. Nitti will be missed but Reiter and Lacouture will fill in without the defense losing a step. Nitti's red was a bit harsh. He broke to the far post on the Lion's free kick at goal and caught the defender. I don't think it was intentional or retaliatory. Instant replay? The referee didn't waste any time in using it to balance out the number of players after conferring with his assistant.

If you weren't there you missed another great soccer match against USF. Lions won 2-1.
The Lions peppered the Don keeper all afternoon. He has been WCC player of the week for the last 2 weeks. He kept a bunch out tonight with some spectacular saves.
The lineup worked well tonight with all the Lions on the field contributing to the win. Another team effort. Three more points!

San Deigo took over the WCC lead at the half way mark. Six more matches. The Lions are on a roll and back in it. It'll be a battle for every point to the last minute. Go LIONS!

The second half starts this week with USD leading the WCC. The Lions are poised and ready for a run to the finish. Every game and result will be huge. The scoreboard watching will start with USF in San Diego mid week. The Lions start on the road this weekend with two tough matches in Santa Clara and San Francisco. The Lions need to keep the win streak going.

Lions and Broncos each gain a point in scoreless tie. Things are still tight in the WCC race. USF knocked off USD 4-0 to share the conference lead with 13 points. SMC is in third after dropping one to Portland, 10 points. LMU also has ten points and needs a win Sunday at USF. It's going to be close, 5 games to go.
LMU Santa Clara match was on the internet but hard to get a feel for the game or identify the players during the match. Much better than gametracker, I'm not compaining.

News from San Francisco! LMU 1-0 in overtime! Craig Nitti scored the winner in 91st minute. No result yet from Santa Clara v USD but that game should also be over soon if not already.

Saint Marys won today so they move up to first with 14 points. Followed by USD USF and LMU with 13. USD result still is pending.

I think Santa Clara wins 4-1 over USD so things continue to tighten up. Santa Clara and Portland have 10 points each and are tied for fifth only four points out of the lead. LMU sits in second place 1 point back at 13 tied with USD and USF.

Everyone has two matches left. It can't get much tighter than it is in the WCC Mens soccer standings. To claim the title it will take two wins on the final weekend. It can't get much more exciting. Wednesday USD visits at 2pm.
In the game against the Zags Sunday the Lions released some anxiety winning 4-1. Everyone played well, lots of players got playing time and the shots (25) and goals were flying!
Two tough matches to go!

The team is on the way to their final game against Saint Marys. The loss to USD at home ended the Lions hopes for a repeat as WCC champions. They battled but couldn't push the ball over the goal line and the Toreros held on to their 1-0 lead. The Lions will still be a force in determining the conference champion. The result Friday will figure prominently in the final standings.
Ten seniors played in their final home game Wednesday. It was great watching them play for the last four years on Sullivan Field. It hardly seems that four years have passed and their careers at LMU are all but over. Lots of great memories including last years first WCC Conference Championship for the soccer boys!

What happened at Saint Marys? The Lions lost by one 1-0 but can someone who was there tell us what happened? Saint Marys got the first yellow card but after that all the cards were dealt to the Lions. A whole slew of yellows and then five red cards! The Lions finished with only seven players on the field and the bench also getting a red card.
Today is the last day and four teams still can win the championship. A win by Saint Marys over USD gives them the title. A USD win gives them a share of the title with the winner of the Santa Clara vs Portland match. If both games end in ties Saint Marys wins.

Saint Marys will be the only WCC mens team in the tournament this year. The WCC teams beat up on each other again. The Santa Clara players showed as much by their demeanor after beating Portland Sunday. Coach Krumpe had his cyrstal ball working when he picked them to win at the beginning of the season. A tight race down to the final weekend.

Saint Marys will travel to Bakersfield and if successful on to Irvine in the tournament this week. They will have their hands full against two tough teams on the road.
Ucla has it easier as usual, waiting for Delaware and Virginia to battle it out and the winner flying out to Westwood. Virginia will give them a battle in the second round.

Will any Lions be recognized in the WCC all conference selections this year? Lots of injuries for the Lions this year will limit Lion recognition this year. League parity will also make it difficult for everyone in the WCC. My picks Tyler Krumpe and Mitch Boland. Roger Downes would be there also but his injury before the WCC schedule started eliminates him from contention. Craig Nitti should also get some votes, he really stepped up for the defense when called on, but with such parity in conference not everyone will make it. At best two and Craig will get more chances in the future no matter which position he plays. Artur Jozkowicz skills also makes him a choice. On the freshman team Dylan Seedman and John McFarlin are easy picks to make.
