Congratulations to the Lions who were selected for conference honors. Artur was the only one on the first team. Tyler and Phil DaSilva made second team. Logan McDaniel and McFarlin were honorable mention. McFarlin and Seedman were all freshman selections.
Not enough spots for defenders and therefore Boland gets overlooked.

Here is a question. Saint Marys knocked off #8 seeded Irvine while Brown knocked off #9 seeded Saint Johns. Do the Gaels get to stay home or do they have to get back on the plane? The winner of #16 Indiana vs #1 seeded UNC looms if the Gaels get by Brown!

The Gaels win 3-2 in overtime over Brown to advance to the final eight. The battle tested Gaels are tough. Fighting their way through the WCC wasn't easy and is paying off for them now. The Gaels are earning points for the conference next season. For now the Gaels are on a run!

The Gaels couldn't get by UNC and fell 2-0. A great run by the Gaels and notoriety for the WCC. The WCC deserves more than one team in the tourney. The Lions probably weren't cheering that loudly for the Gaels but with them doing so well our chances next year are enhanced. The same as in basketball and football the big conferences want and think they deserve the slots. Not true. All the "west coast" conferences are on a par if not superior to the Pac 6.
The finals begin this weekend for the men. UCLA has made it to the final four, but no rooting for a west coast team this weekend. I'll be cheering for the Creighton Blue Jays.

Today the semi finals. These two are usually the most exciting for me. Creighton v Charlotte at 3 and UCLA v UNC at 5:30. Tune in at ESPNU for both games! Go Jays!

www.oursportscentral.com/services/releases/?id=4328663 The 2012 MLS Combine list was announced on 12/7. See it on the above link. No Lions included and only one WCC rep that I noticed, Michael Bates from Santa Clara. I noticed that the list was compiled by voting of a panel of college coaches and others. Thank goodness that there are other ways to find your way to the MLS. Rafie proved that. He was overlooked by all the combines and still found his way there. Lots of talent getting overlooked again by this combine.

UCLA lost their semi in penalties to UNC. After leading twice in regulation UNC tied things up. Tough way to lose. Actually it counts as a tie but I'm sure that doesn't help the Bruins feel any better. Both semi finals ended in ties, not the best way to determine a winner but I don't see them changing the format soon if ever. Charlotte advanced in its last two matches on penalties downing Creighton in the other semi.. Charlotte played hard in the final carrying the match to UNC. A couple of questionable calls, a couple of bounces the wrong way and UNC managed a goal and the win. The referree seemed to enjoy watching the game from field level, he had the best view and didn't even buy a ticket. He was consistent, he didn't call much that was important either way. Okay the season is over! When do we start again?

Logan McDaniel (Portland Timbers) and Tyler Krumpe (San Jose Earthquakes) were both selected in the 4th round of the MLS Supplemental Draft today. Congrats to them!
