OK old news but it's nice to see Dunlap is bringing in height to the team - front line players at least 6'8" for the future.

This guy is a huge project, would probably need a redshirt year, definitely not ready to step on the court. But not too many 7 footers come around so 100% worth the risk to see if we could potentially develop him.

Another reason why the addition of Stefan Janovich is a valuable addition. Next year's bigs: Adom, Shamar, Stefan, Petr & Trevor at semester break. Dunlap would certainly red shirt the 7' 1" freshman. He might think about red shirting Petr like the Zags red shirted Olynyk between his sophomore and junior year. That way the 2017 team could replace Adom, Shamar & Stefan with Petr and Mattais, who would have been practicing throughout the preceding year.

Agree with red shirting Herman and Markusson.

Do we have any more open spots for next year? I suppose it depends if anyone redshirts.....

Redshirts count toward your 13 scholarships.
Sorry for Hayes, but I figured either Hayes or Sykes had to go with Jankovic's arrival.
13 are: Brown, Tutu Haney, McClendon, Gipson Manuel, Spiers, Tuach Jacko, Herman, Sykes Johnson, Jankovic
Someone else would have to leave if we added anyone.

Really deep 13. I think all can contribute meaningful minutes. We are most vulnerable at the point if Brown or Tutu got hurt we'd be exposed.

Pumpfake, I agree about the depth. Injuries hurt everybody. No team, even a top 10 team, can absorb multiple losses at a single position, especially point guard.
And, I must say that I'm getting excited about next year. It is reasonable to expect improvement and development across the board from the returning players. Adding a 6'11" 235 pound senior center who played significant minutes, even as a back-up, from an NCAA tournament team and a Top 100 6'10" transfer rightfully brings heightened expectations. I'm expecting LMU to be invited to a post season tournament next year. Yes, I hope its an NCAA tournament bid and next year's team should be a WCC tournament threat.
I think we need to give Dunlap and his staff credit for their recruiting. And, if they land the Swedish 7 footer to develop even more praise. Credit and praise given. Now, its time to show off the development of that talent and make a conference move. I think it's reasonable to expect LMU to compete for a top 3 finish in the WCC next year. And, more important, I expect LMU to be a credible threat to beat Gonzaga, Saint Mary's and BYU in the WCC Tournament. Not predicting or saying it will happen but I will be disappointed if LMU is not competitive in the WCC tournament against any and all of those teams.

Should be an exciting season - I too am excited about our prospects Another recruit will jeopardize the status of either Sykes or Spiers in my opinion. Spiers had one really good game but his play faded late in the season and Sykes stats are less than overwhelming. What is the deal with a scholarship player that hasn't yet enrolled? As I understand things, LMU is committed, if he was signed, for at least one season? I wish the best for Matt Hayes. Lots of our other transfers have landed at schools where they are significant contributors - like DII Biola - and they can play right away. We just had too much talent for him to compete here for minutes.

90045, I don't know about Sykes but, to respond to your question, my understanding is a letter of intent is conditioned upon the recruit qualifying for admission.

I still think we are a distant 4th from the top 3 (all 3 of the top 3 should be better next year), but anything less than 4th should be disappointing, with Pepperdine losing most of their production, and all the other coaching changes.
As for Sykes, if he is having academic issues, maybe he could be like Jacko for us... Take a year off and work on his strength and game, and then come join the team as a junior for us in the 2017-18 season. Jacko's numbers werent impressive in community college either, although they were better than Sykes, anyone who is familiar with Fresno CC know they have an odd rotation and don't put up big numbers.
If we had Sykes coming in next year with the big 7'1" project redshirting, we will be looking solid in the future, now all we need is another PG, as that is really the only position we are lacking depth.
